Default Time Trials Round 7 and Season Wrap-Up

Round 7 wraps-up the 2013 Reno SCCA Time Trials Championship. The cooler temperatures of late September drew out 14 Club Trials and 13 Track Trials competitors to attack Reno-Fernley's Course B. Not quite the full-length circuit, the course features the Sunset Straight as well as most of the upper track, a challenge for both high and low power cars alike.

In Club Trials:

Greg Haubner takes another overall CT fast lap, and a win in TT-1, this time unchallenged by Daniel Stack who was unable to repair his car in time for the event. With a blazing 2:23.005 Haubner's R8-GT smashed the rest of the field by over 4 seconds.

In TT-3, Ryan Lewis in his 1986 Camaro grabs the win over Dante Heredia's BMW M3. This is Lewis' fourth TT-3 win for the season, but attrition will hand the class championship to Heredia who finished every event this season in first or second.

In other class results, Timothy McMaster closes out a perfect 70 point season in TT-4, with 7 of 7 round wins. Michael Tonner defeats Dan Small in the battle of the TT-5 Miatas. Scott Perry, Don Alexander, Bill Brockett, and Jose Vasquez all win their uncontested classes.

Club Trials Season Wrap-up:

This season, two competitors stand out: Daniel Stack and Timothy McMaster.

Daniel Stack spent most of the season not only winning in TT-1, but also setting top times, all the while with Haubner's Audi breathing down his neck. Stack's perfect season apparently sidelined only by a control arm failure in Round 6. Stack takes the TT-1 championship, Haubner takes second.

And speaking of perfect seasons, Timothy McMaster took his 2007 Miata to the top of his class at every event this season, eeking out wins over Tupper Robinson's Ferrari 550 when necessary. McMaster is the TT-4 champion for 2013.

In TT-3, it was Dante Heredia, Ryan Lewis, and James Berish placing 1, 2, 3 in the final standings. Lewis seemed to have a pace advantage, but it was Heredia's consistent top-two finishes that earned him the top step.

Scott Perry wins in TT-6, just edging out Grant Henning in second by a mere 6 points.

In Track Trials:

Setting the top time for the weekend, and providing the eye-candy for the spectators in Round 7 is Julian Kift who brought out a gorgeous 1990 Reynard Formula Atlantic car sponsored by Rev Limit Racing. Setting a lap of 2:15.333, Kift tops the 2:18.479 of Lysle Turnbaugh in his 1969 Herbert Performance F-Vee.

In the season-long SRF battle, the final round goes once again to Court Cardinal in the Casino Fandango ride. Hank Raymond takes second, less than 4 tenths of a second behind Cardinal. Eugene Barbera finishes in third.

Scott Knauf and his Russ auto and RV Spec Miata goes 7 for 7 with another win in TT-6, this time fending off Jay Carpenter in his 1978 VW Scirocco, and Eric Johnson in his 1975 BMW 2002.

In other class results, Alan Matthews scores a fourth round win in TT-3, and Ron Shakespear wins in GTA over an unfortunate DNS by Gary Porter in the class.

Track Trials Season Wrap-up:

The Track Trials stand outs this season are Lysle Turnbeaugh and Scott Knauf.

Although Lysle Turnbeaugh takes the FS championship uncontested, it was his setting of top time for all cars over five of the seven events that is notable for the driver of the Herbert Performance sponsored 1969 F-Vee Reichmark.

With a perfect season, Scott Knauf is the TT-6 class champion for 2013. Knauf not only took on all comers in the Russ auto and RV 1991 Mazda Miata, he took on Jay Carpenter who ran six of seven rounds, keeping Knauf just one DNF away from a second place.

This season's SRF championship was hotly contended. With four wins, the championship goes to Court Cardinal in the Casino Fandango 1988 Spec-Racer Ford. Hank Raymond in the 1984 SRF machine sponsored by Tahoeautorepair.com grabs second just 8 points ahead of Eugene Barbera in third.

The TT-2 championship was a slug-fest between two Corvettes. Coming on strong in the middle of the season, Chris McMillen wins the 2013 TT-2 championship in his 2008 Corvette, taking advantage of missed rounds by Art Majors in his 2003 Corvette Z06. Scott Perry places third, having split his season running in Club Trials, and Dave Matthews places fourth due to multiple DNS's.

With four wins and one runner-up finish, Alan Matthews is the TT-3 class champion this season in his Herbert Performance sponsored 1973 Porsche 914.

In TT-5, it was a battle between Al Lockett's Lockett Inc. 1989 Honda Civic and Tom Berndt's High Desert Pharmaceutics 1994 Spec Miata. Al Lockett secures the TT-5 championship with four wins over Berndt's 4 runner-up finishes.

As always, the full season standings and event results are available on the Results Page. Trophies for the eligible winners will be endowed at the season-end awards banquet Saturday, November 16. Details here: http://www.renoscca.org/documents/Ge...%20Banquet.pdf Please RSVP by Monday the 13th, we hope to see you there!

The 2014 season is just around the corner! Please keep up with the RenoSCCA Trials forums for conversations about potential Time Trials rule changes.
