Default Time Trials Round 6 Held Under Smoky Skies

Even though smoke from the Yosemite/Rim fire darkened the sky, Round 6 of the Reno SCCA Time Trials Championship brought out twenty-one drivers to race against the clock. The weekend, shortened to a single one-day event, featured Reno-Fernley's H configuration, a common layout familiar to Reno SCCA competitors. Course H includes a jaunt up the hill followed by a run across the ridgeline straight before dropping back down into the horseshoe.

In Club Trials:

Greg Haubner finally took a win over rival Daniel Stack in TT-1. Boasting a time of 1:52.575, Haubner's #4 Audi R8-GT topped the CT times as Stack's best time 1:53.318 from the #412 Inverters R Us Mustang didn't quite measure up, perhaps a result of mechanical issues that limited Stack's time on course. Either way, with the recently shortened event schedule, Stack has clinched the class win for the season, but his undefeated season has been upset!

In other class results, Dante Heredia solidifies his overall lead in TT-3 with a win over Ryan Lewis who suffered a DNS this round. Timothy McMaster takes his 6th win in 6 events in TT-4 to remain undefeated. Scott Perry returns to TT-6 with a win, shortening Grant Hennig's overall lead in the class to just 4 points. Robert McLaughlin wins in FP, Bill Brockett bests Dick Dickson in SA, and Jacob Simons wins in SC.

In Track Trials:

Breaking into the 49's with a 1:49.226, Lysle Turnbeaugh once again sets the fastest lap of the weekend in his 1969 F-Vee Reichmark FS racer. Chris McMillen out-qualified Turnbeaugh for the event, but was unable to match the open-wheel car with his 2008 Chevrolet Corvette in the race, though his time was good enough for another TT-2 class win that locks up the class championship over Art Majors.

In the highly contested SRF battle, Court Cardinal in the Casino Fandango car wins the round over Eugene Barbera. With Hank Raymond a no-show, this clinches the class win for Cardinal, though only 6 points separate 2nd and 3rd places, pushing the class results to be decided at the final round in September.

Meanwhile, SRF gets crowded with three drivers within 5 seconds of each other. Rich Kenny takes the win over Court Cardinal by just three-tenths of a second, the CSR Performance machine putting in a 1:34.033, to the 1:34.369 set by the Casino Fandango car.

In other class results, Alan Matthews, Pete Morley, and Scott Knauf all win their uncontested classes. This is Knauf's 6th win in 6 events, making him one of just two drivers this season to go undefeated so far.

As always, the full season standings and event results are available on the Results Page. The next event is September 28 at Reno-Fernley, visit http://renoscca.motorsportsreg.com to register online!
