Arrow SB315 loud cars illegal

There's a bill in the state senate that would impose hefty fines on cars which have modified exhaust systems to make them louder than they would otherwise be:

A bill sponsored by Sen. James Ohrenschall (D-Las Vegas) would prohibit modifications on a car’s exhaust system that make the vehicle louder than it would otherwise be. It calls for civil fines ranging from $250 to $1,000 for violators.

Should keep an eye on this to see if it passes and the gov signs it.

Big Brother is most certainly watching. And listening.

Maybe he needs to read existing law. It is already illegal to delete muffler, bypass, cut, modify...etc.
Stereo as loud you want, no limit

New law - if passed - is much more restricitive in that it outlaws anything other than stock exhaust noise. You can currently install cat-back systems as long as you don't mess with any of the smog or cat system. So if you currently have a cat-back exhaust it would need to be at same DB level as the car made stock. How they would check and enforce this is the question.

Every car is different from factory. I would think they would need db level across all of them to enforce it. Also don't some cars have different level of noise depending on mode you select?

Yes, quite the rage now. My little Miata is certainly louder than stock, but no where near as loud as any Harley Hog, so, what about them?

This almost verbatim follows California Vehicle Code 27151 that is already in force in CA.

All these politicians, as far from car enthusiasts as possible, making decisions regarding our hobby. Defiantly the enthusiast community has become under attack in the past few months. I feel like an outlaw just because I like cars.

I wonder if we write our representatives before it leaves committee or after? Since most of them haven't seen it yet I think after would be better, but am afraid the window between first read and passing could be too short. At least they are so uninformed they don't know they could accomplish the same thing with the law already on the books.

It appears this bill died in committee, so no changes for at least two more years.
