Default Yeah, it's got a hemi

Someone at the last Hard Rock event asked about the bumper sticker on my '87 Alfa Spider and I thought I'd clear up any confusion. Here's a photo of the head on an Alfa 2.0, DOHC engine like mine. Unfortunately, hemi-heads have serious shortcomings, as described here in an article I copied from:

"We now know that the Hemi design is at the worst end of the spectrum for a combustion chamber. A nice compact chamber is best; that’s why the four valve pent roof style chambers are so popular. The flatter the chamber, the smaller the closed volume of the chamber, the less dome you need in the piston. We can get inherently high compression ratios with a flat top piston with a very nice bum pattern right in the combustion chamber, with very short distances, with very good mixture motion – a very efficient chamber."

Maybe I'll scrape that sticker off...

The Moto-Guzzi engines that powered the unmanned aircraft i used to work on had hemi combustion chambers too. Seems the Italians liked that design, at least long ago - that engine was designed in the 50s. With the hemi shape, the flame takes too long to reach the edge of the combustion chamber, and lots of bad stuff can happen along the way.

The way Dodge uses Hemi is not much more than advertising sloganism.

Anyway, your car qualifies, i say keep the sticker.
