Default The last solo event

Due to the tragedy at Stead airport yesterday, there is a good possibility that we will not be able to have our last planned solo event scheduled for 10/1-2/11. I will be in contact with the airport manager next week to see if there is any chance we can have our event. Don & I have been working on finding another location and have made some inquires but do not have any responses yet. I have left word at Mt. Rose ski area, Boreal ski area, and Truckee airport. Keep checking this forum for updates. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

I understand the potential of not having our final solo event. And in wake of what happened I personally would not like to run at stead airport so shortly after yesterdays tragedy. I do hope we can find an alternate site.

I hope all of the Reno SCCA family and friends are safe.

Stead airport is not available so we have moved the location to the Mt. Rose ski area main parking lot. Don & I looked at the lot today and talked to management. The parking lot surface is in pretty good condition and Don will be designing a "highly technical course" that will fit the area we have to work with. Because of the conditions and the location we will have 3 run groups on both days. So everyone will need to be at the site at 8 AM to register and then be placed in one of the 3 run groups. Group 1 will drive, group 2 will work, group 3 will rest/watch/eat/etc. Then the groups will rotate until everyone has raced & worked. Depending on how many drivers show up, we should be done by early/mid afternoon. There is RV and trailer parking on the upper parking lot which has a nice view of the course. It is a beautiful location and should be a lot of fun. Stay tuned for any last minute announcements.

Sacramento Valley Region of PCA uses this format and makes the change over from run group to run group on the fly. It works pretty well with the 40 to 50 car turnouts that SVR gets at Mather. I am glad that Reno found an alternative site. Now all I need to do is to get there on one of the two days.

Why not convert it to a rallycross and use the ski runs? To the organizer(s) of that shebang, I'd be happy to host a post-race party at my house (just off the MR highway in Galena) if there are any takers.

Good news. And great job finding a alternate site so quickly with such short notice.

I wonder what the surface will be like, I know a few weeks ago they had a teen driver school up there and there was a lot of dawn dish soap spread around.

At 8260', any turbo driver will rejoice. I doubt I will get out of first gear, it'll be like running Fred Flintstone's car.

At least you won't have to fiddle with the throttle to limit wheel spin/ staying on line just keep it planted.

Dawn + fresh mountain rain, it sounds like a commercial.

Let's all work on a good turnout!

Last day for the Alfa before a new head gasket goes in on sunday. The third bottle of "head gasket in a can" finally stopped working...got 25k out of the product.

Thumbs up Solo event move to Mt. Rose

More good news...reinforced motor mounts for the Alfa arrived. They'll go in sunday, as well.

Also wanted to say a few words about the venue change to Mt. Rose...

Props to everyone involved from Reno SCCA who had the sensitivity to appreciate Stead would not be an appropriate location for our final solo event of the season. Excellent, thoughtful decision, all.

Where that leaves us at Stead going forward will be a matter of discussion for another time...a long off season ahead.

Be safe

I'm gonna try and make it Sunday, so with this set up of 3 run groups there wont be an afternoon set of run groups?

We actually scrapped the 3 rungroup idea and just had 2 instead...much simpler that way. I believe the blue and white groups ran 2nd today so they'll run first tomorrow? Everyone still needs to get there in time for the 8:45 drivers meeting in the morning.

Today's course at Mt Rose was fun for me. A little tricky, but once figured out it flowed well. My one trip almost over the mountains this year for a Reno event was enjoyable. The early finish was great. Hopefully next year I'll have time available to make more Reno events.

I had a ton of fun today, I was glad we had so many runs because I was struggling in teh first few runs. Great day, thanks Wes and Don.

I hope the course didn't get opened up too much for sunday

Default 13 and 14

Thanks to all for the hard work and dedication that makes Reno SCCA what it is. It's been a fun season. Events 13 and 14 were a BLAST! (almost as much fun as Reno Fernley).
