Wow, the back-end really did sit out there for quite some time! If I hadn't over corrected, that would have been spectacular.

Club trials from Saturday... had a good lap going, but got checked up on the way onto sunset... you can't even lift in a Miata if you want a decent time, let alone brake mid corner in a type-1 turn.

Unfortunately, by the end of this session, my motor was way overheated. That's probably what killed it... it just took another 24 hours before it died.

Cool videos Scott, could really feel your frustration oozing from the screen on that Saturday run too.

PS - sorry for your motor...yikes.

Yeah, I thought I had it timed just right to catch him on sunset... plus, right before the straight, the flagger was super heads-up and saw what was happening and waved the blue like a madman.

I just got there a tiny bit too soon.

I thought the one of our cat/mouse was from inside facing back???

Does trying the death move with one hand make it the suicide move?

Um, I said "it was facing back"... but what you're seeing inside the car is just the empty camera mount. The camera was on a suction cup at the end of the hood. You still want a copy of my raw footage?

The 1-handed death move wasn't very scary actually... spinning in the Miata feels safer than going straight in the WRX.

Sure, might have some good bits.

Having spun a few Miatas and been in a couple spun ones, I would have to agree.

Default need schooling

Scott, how about schooling me on how to edit and post my go pro footage on you tube or vimeo. Or at least tell me where to find some info. Remember I am a pre PC dinasour so I need the one for the complete idiot. I have some pretty good footage from TT on Sunday.

When I saw you go out with the camera on your hood facing backwards I laughed. It actually turn out to be some great footage though.

Unfortunately, editing gopro footage is a pain. I use Adobe Premier, but it's got a pretty steep learning curve. I think windows movie maker might edit it though... and that's free if you download it from Microsoft, or at least it used to be.

Editing video is kinda more than I can tackle in a forum post, but the short gist is just that you'll want to crop the footage down to something interesting. Then, create yourself a YouTube account and uploading is as simple as dropping the edited file onto your web browser. Once it's on YouTube, you can just cut and paste the address from the video's page in a post here and the forums will automatically embed the video in the forum thread.

I'm sure YouTube and google will have much better descriptions than I just gave. Try reading up online a bit. In fact, I would bet YouTube has some good tutorial videos.

Good job Scott. I like the video, didn't know you had practiced that slide the lap before.

I think I learned more about my driving from your video than mine. I thought I was pretty good through 1,2 and 3. The rate at which you close in on me in the braking for 2 and speed through 2 and 3, shows me there is a large amount of time I am losing. On the other hand I am please to see I am consistently using all the track in so corners. Kicking up dust on the exit of 5 with my left rear, and every lap kicking more up at the end of the peanut. And how close to the edge at turn 23 braking zone. Thanks for posting the video.

Here's CT Qualifying. I've also got the PDX stuff, just need to upload it when I get back home after work.

Good stuff, Scott. Looks like you made a number of catches, so maybe you don't give yourself enough credit for your abilities in that area.

Why do I find myself leaning and turning my head every time I watch a video at RFR?

Here's my PDX video. Should match up with a lot of Scott M's footage.

Thanks for posting the video, Scott! It's cool with the low angle and makes for interesting comparisons. That's the first time I've seen my car on track like that. Awesome fun!

Us Miata guys ought to arrange a convoy out there next time. It would be fun to have a group with video cameras running, swapping positions. Who's got Miatas? Wes, Tom will next year, Tim, Gary Guzelis (MSpeed) and the three Scotts. There's a few more, right?

Don't forget Don. I think we might need an entire run group if we all got together.

Oh yeah, Don too. LoL, we might need a few more for our own run group, but aren't there are 2-3 more that could join us?

Some quickies from the May PDX:

My student Ken driving his new GTR:

And, since he's such a nice guy, here's me getting to drive a few instructional lap in it!

For ego-check purposes, here's me throwing the Miata off the track on the same day:

I tried like 6 different lines through that set of corners at the end of the ridge-line straight, and nothing ever felt both smooth and fast. I'm afraid the fast line through there involves just tossing the car over all the curbs and praying it's still pointing the right direction when all the bumps are over with.

Nice slide! I saw trouble the moment you went rally wide over the hump. Rich is probably still bragging how his Caddy passed a spec Miata. LOL
