Exclamation We have a site!!

We will be using the parking lot at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino at Stateline, and have set up weekends this April, May and June. Ahren will post the schedule after it's firmed up at the next meeting, but as long as the snow melts we're on.

Nice. Congrats! Are your autox events usually two day events (Sat-Sun), or one day, either Sat or Sun?

Two days, Saturday and Sunday. The Hard Rock is a pretty nice place to spend a Saturday night if you want to make a weekend of it.

They said they will offer a special rate for the autocrossers. We have not received the details yet. They will have a spectator area with a bleacher and a food truck.

Thumbs up Cautiously optimistic

While I am thrilled to hear this news, may I humbly suggest this would be an excellent opportunity for Club directors to give serious thought to issues surrounding sound levels emanating from competitors.

Many will recall the club's all to brief foray into Autocross at Squaw Valley, where residents and businesses found the sounds (I won't call it noise ) of some competitors objectionable and a return invitation was not forthcoming based largely upon that issue. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No need to observe, but I will, Hard Rock (where I spent several miserable months a number of years ago working on roof R&R in February) is obviously in a densely developed area, with numerous neighboring hotels, casinos, condos and businesses within earshot (no pun intended) who are unlikely to share competitor's enthusiasm for the sound of well tuned, and in some cases, minimally muffled engines.

Far be it from me (a lapsed member) to suggest a remedy, but I believe if the club shows up and teacups are rattled throughout South Lake, the outcome is unlikely to be positive.

I shall shut up now and trust our capable, thoughtful management team will give serious consideration to my comments.

See you in South Lake Tahoe.

At least once...

At one time we had two decibel meters but I have not seen them in a couple years and I've gone through the van and trailer cleaning it out a couple times since. I went to look in the sups to confirm our decibel limit and rules but the sups are missing on this website. I have a hard copy of the sups that say 95 decibels at 75 feet using the averaging method of measurement. Meters run from $20 to $400 on Amazon.

We stopped using the gauges because the phone apps are just as accurate, and cheaper

Phone apps? Of course, there's an app for that. Not too sure about the accuracy though, the one I downloaded says I speak at 65db, and Sheri still can't hear me when I tell her something.

Don, there's a joke in here somewhere about wives having selective hearing, but I'm gonna try to leave it alone...

The club does have two decibel meters, and we've done some testing in the past. Very few cars actually exceeded our limit at the time.
Steve does make a point worth noting though: even if we aren't excessive by our own standards, that doesn't mean that somebody won't complain... something we should certainly be cautious of in such a densely populated area.

We'll have someone monitoring the cars, a work assignment. We sure don't want to upset anyone up there.

I guess I better don't bring the Formula FST with its complete absence of a muffler...

As a South Lake resident, I'm super excited to have some events in town! I can chime in with regards to the sound issue. The Hard Rock parking lot doesn't have a lot around it. There's the golf course nearby and I'm sure there will be a few snooty lookey-loos, but the Harvey's outdoor sound stage is right next door so I'm sure they'll be used to loud noises coming from that area. That being said the town itself is pretty noise sensitive. There's a LOT of anger floating around about the winter concert series Snow Globe that comes through around New Years. The main complaints are the traffic and late-night noise it creates. Assuming SCCA participants aren't bombing through residential areas (which you shouldn't anyways) late at night I think there won't be too much trouble or resistance. Can't wait to meet some people out there in the coming months!

Discussions with folks "in the know" at Tech Day make me feel much more comfortable about noise issues at Hard Rock. The hotel has already welcomed (tolerated?) motorcycle gatherings so unless an SCCA participant rattles teacups, we should be good. Notice the golf course which abuts much of the lot:

Regrettably, an elderly neighbor died recently and I'll be attending a service at his ancestral home in Clear Lake. Regret X2 .

May be available for set-up Friday.
