Default Question On August 18 Track Day

It has been suggested that we try using the Turn 7 to Turn 10 bypass for the August 18 event. This would eliminate the very sharp left hand turn 7 and the sharp right hand turn 9. This would also eliminate the need for corner workers at T8 and T10 and would provide a longer straight which should help with passing.

A down side is that it would shorten the track by maybe 1/4 mile and eliminate the fun right hand sweeper at T8.

Sooo, what do you think. The normal configuration or the bypass? Let me know cause I could really use some help with this.

Oh, by the way we don't have very many TT drivers entered yet. If you are planning to come out now would be a good time to enter.

I expect the weather will be cooled down some by mid August and we most likely won't have chain controls in the Sierra. Should be a good time.

Am I wrong, or is there a fairly significant bump at the transition near the pit exit on that bypass...?

<- worries about jumping the STi if we get the motor installed in time to make the event, but I guess it can't be worse than the ski jump at Buttonwillow.

There is a 'hump' but it is on the straight so it shouldn't be bad. I talked with others that have run it and they said it gets your attention but is not difficult.

Certainly a consideration - Thanks for the input!

I'm definitely down to give it a go. Some of the higher power cars are going to be carrying some significant speed on the way down to turn 1!

I'd say no. I enjoy that track as it's configured. The areas that would be eliminated present a good portion of the challenge and technical aspect of running the track.

X2 Ill be out of town for this one and miss it but if I was going Id highly prefer keeping that section it is a fun section vs a straightaway.

Another vote for NOT using the bypass, turn 8-9 is a fun and technical portion; also, the track is pretty short as is without dropping off a 1/4 mile.

My .02 --- The track is already pretty short with most running around a 1:30 lap time. If you clip nearly a 1/4 of that off we might as well be just running an autocross.
I think that bypass is really only fun when its part of the full 5 miles course.

Agree completely. I believe it's only use is with the 5 mile course.

I'm hoping to get the car back together and run the event as a shake down for the season finale SFR Regional. I'd prefer less emphasis on the 'shake' and I've heard the bump in the bypass can lead to air time. I wouldn't want to put those stresses on my gearbox in an acceleration zone to test it.

Thanks for the feedback. I certainly respect your opinions. We will stay with the full course and will not use the by-pass.

Thanks Everyone!

I'd echo Joules's thoughts, for the same reasons (other than an expected lack of acceleration with my car).

I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to this event, but in the future, I wouldn't mind doing such a thing, recognizing that it's just for 1 out of 4 events. A little variety never hurts!
