Default Time Trials Round 5 includes Club Race Experience

Summer is officially here, now that Reno SCCA competitors have slogged it out in 104F temps over the weekend for Round 5 of the Reno SCCA Time Trials Championship. The time trials event took place on 6/29 & 6/30, combining the best times from both days over Reno-Fernley's "Horsepower Course" (K-1), which is the older course paved prior to the upper-track's completion featuring the long front and mid-straights that tend to favor the higher-powered cars.

Twenty-one drivers tested there mettle against each other and the blazing temperatures, while six of the drivers also raced in the Club Race Experience held as part of the Alternate Driver's School held concurrently with the time trials event. The ADS provides an alternate route to an SCCA Club Race novice license with instruction and a practice race at the end of the day.

In Club Trials:

Daniel Stack once again put the #412 Inverters R Us Mustang at the top of the charts, using the big-power of a super-charged V8 to beat the finesse of Greg Haubner's #4 Audi R8-GT. Stack laid down a 1:26.163 over Haubner's 1:29.215, putting him atop TT-1 and the overall CT times. Stack continues his undefeated streak, taking 5 of 5 rounds so far this season.

In other class results, James Berish moves to TT-2 this round and takes the uncontested class. Ryan Lewis tops TT-3, nearly breaking into the 29's with a 1:30.124. Timothy McMaster remains undefeated in TT-4 with another win. Grant Hennig takes over the TT-6 lead with a second win in as many rounds.

In Track Trials:

Setting the fastest time of the weekend, and winning TT-2, Chris McMillen stops the clock at 1:24.511. This is McMillen's first overall victory, and third class win, cementing his lead in TT-2 in his 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. McMillen takes the win over Scott Perry, who sets a 1:29.359 in his sponsored 2002 Subaru WRX.

Meanwhile, SRF gets crowded with three drivers within 5 seconds of each other. Rich Kenny takes the win over Court Cardinal by just three-tenths of a second, the CSR Performance machine putting in a 1:34.033, to the 1:34.369 set by the Casino Fandango car.

In other class results, Gene Thrall moves to TT-4 this round taking the uncontested win, and Scott Knauf goes 5 for 5 with another win in TT-6.

As always, the full season standings and event results are available on the Results Page. The next event is August 24/25 at Reno-Fernley, visit to register online!
