Hi, I'm new here. I came out last Saturday, so I figure I'll introduce myself officially.

My name is Denis, I've lived in Reno area for about 8 years, prior to that couple years in Bay Area, and prior to that, Moscow Russia, where I was born and grew up.

I am mostly into 4x4s and own a highly-modified 1997 Jeep Wrangler, as well as own and run a local 4x4 forum - Reno4x4.com (http://www.reno4x4.com).

Last year I picked up a 96 Miata to save on gas and have a cheap convertible for the wife to drive. It's pretty much stock, I just added Hard Dog roll bar and V8Roadster frame rails to stiffen it up a bit and make it safer. I just placed an order on some TRMotorsports C1 wheels and Dunlop StarSpec tires, so I'm hoping for an improvement in my times at the next event, as the 17" wheels and cheapo tires didn't do that well last Saturday.

Welcome.

Just a FYI... Cheapo tires are a great learning tool. learning to manage your traction budget is much easier with less of it. Big sticky tires often mask a driver's mistakes.

The biggest investment you can make in better times is in the driver. Nothing beats seat time for the driver on a bang for your buck perspective.

This weekend's PDX at RFR is a great opportunity. I should know, I am the chief instructor. ;)

Not sure if I'll make it this weekend, but will be at Stead next weekend.

I know that bad tires allow for more learning experience, but I really need to get rid of these heavy 17s and improve acceleration and braking.

You did well on saturday, the speed will come with experience. As you take part in a few more events you will notice big improvements to your times. You drove a smooth and had knowledge of what lines you should take. Good luck and see you at the next event.
