A new Track Event has been tentatively added to Reno Region's schedule. On Saturday, July 17th, we plan to put on a Performance Driving eXperience (PDX) at Reno-Fernley Raceway. This will be a PDX-only event, with no Club Trials or Track Trials competition sessions. However, just about any driver will be able to enter -- if you no longer need instruction but would like to come out and do some lapping, there'll be a special PDX group just for folks like you. Registration should be open soon -- we're currently applying for the SCCA sanction, and we can't officially accept entries until the sanction is granted. Entry fee will be the same as before, $175. Watch for more details as they're worked out!

Just to clarify Jim's comments on instruction:

Per PDX rules, there will be instructors for all groups! The advanced group will not be required to have in-car instruction, but we expect to have in-car or lead-follow instruction available. The groups will be observed for instruction purposes and there will be mandatory group download/instruction meetings during the day for all groups.

This is a great opportunity to come out and work on line, vision and technique with lots of track time.

There will also be instructor run groups where students will have the opportunity to ride with instructors to learn and observe their line and techniques.

Sounds good Jim....I will post it up all around when we know what the run groups will be & time on track.

Run groups will be instructor and 2 or 3 student groups depending on numbers. Drivers can expect 1:30-2:00 or maybe more track time depending on final schedule.

This is subject to change depending on the number of entries, but the course configuration for the July 17th PDX-only event will be the upper course, that's course K-2. We'll be running counter-clockwise. It's an excellent "learning" course, with several "textbook" corners and challenging turn sequences. Also, the pavement in the braking zone at the end of the Sunset Straight was just replaced this spring.

I'm guessing from the big-grin smiley on the last post that the writer already knows or suspects the answer to his question. If somebody out there really doesn't know why we would choose K-2 for this PDX-only event, I'll try to give a full answer when I get back to Reno next week.

Well, I have an opinion on that but, it's just my opinion.

Sat. is almost here! Hope everyone is signed up and ready to go.

Remember Long Pants and LONG SLEEVES are required while on-track!

If someone with a pickup or trailer is going out from Reno, I have a 20' X 10' "Pop Up" shade and a 10' X 10' we could use if someone could transport and help me get out of the basement. :)

They are bagged, but too large and heavy for one person to handle.

Kudos! to the event organizers (Jim Gandy, Dave and Carol Deborde, Dean Benz), and to chiefs, workers and instructors who gave their time and energies to promote this learning and growth opportunity.

And to our new logbook holders - welcome to the world of track enthusiasm. Now get ready to empty your wallets. ;)

- And, Thanks to Reno-Fernley Racetrack!
