Here's some more news that will interest Rally people...
Reno Region now has a genuine Rally star as a member. As of 4/30, Hendrik Blok has joined our region. Hendrik was a star of the SCCA Pro Rally ciruit in the '70s and '80s. He won the Pro Rally championship in 1976, driving a Datsun 510. It was a real accomplishment -- he was one of only two drivers to break the lock that John Buffum had on the championship during that 10-12 year period. As I recall, at various times Blok had factory support from different marques; I know he drove such cars as a Mazda GLC and a Plymouth Fire Arrow (Mitsubishi Celeste). Blok was noted for being an intense competitor and a brilliant driver.
Hendrik Blok, orginally from the Netherlands, is now in his sixties, is a businessman, is married, has a doctorate -- and he checked the boxes on his membership application that indicate he's interested in Club Racing and Rally.
Blok says he travels extensively and won't be able to make our June meeting, but I hope we'll have the chance to meet him soon. Please join me in welcoming Hendrik to Reno Region!
