Awesome! cool news

Only thing equally bad as no site is no competitors. hehehe

How many people have a car they are willing to RallyX?

I know about 6 people in Tahoe who have cars they would rallyX (though scheduling and having the money to attend is always a Q for tahoe peeps)

a few close rally buddies would come up for sure.

and maybe 5-20 more people from California if our event(s) was a points event for the FRX (formula rallyX) series and CRS (california rally series)

Brent's also got i think 4 events schedule now @ Prarie City in fact the next one is May 15-16 (SCCA!) if anyone wants to come down and check out what all the dust is about :P

Does the casino Fandago Own any land that might work? As i hear the owner autocrosses! :)

the TMCC also has a reserve lot that could work well. do we have anything written up on how to approach a land owner type thing?

I am glad the thumbnails dont seem to work so you cant see the ugly guy in the new race car. I just picked up a 1980 280ZX that i cant wait to rallyX

As soon as I have a functional autocross car, I would definitely like the chance to rallycross it once or twice and see how it holds up.

AlexR

Oh and Kevin if you want to co-drive one of the days Next weekend in Sac lmk (send PM)

(just don't grab 1st thinking its 3rd again) :P the last motor didn't like that a whole lot

If I head out anywhere, it will be to the autocross at Mather. I need seat time if I'm going to stay sharp enough to keep beating Matt!

AlexR
05-06-2010, 04:44 PM
;) What you need is cross training man. At a certain point (like going from 17 events to 19) in a year isn't going to help as much as getting a few events that are a bit different.

Karting
RallyX
hill climb
Track day
Rally
:P course then again once, maybe you can crack the top 10 , the only type of training that really helps autoX is more damn autoX

There were a couple of documents from the SCCA 2009 Convention for starting a Rallycross program, they are on the SCCA website. You will need to have a sign-on to access them through this link:

Very good start people. BTW, get signed up with VW for contingency, since your club car is a VW, why not make some money rallycrossing it. Just make sure it is reliable. Stickers for the donor would be nice, along with Reno scca stickers everywhere. Great to see support for this venture. I'm happy to help with everything I can, as I'm on the RXB and want to see this aspect of SCCA grow.

AlexR

Brent, do you happen to know if we need a RallyX specific safety stewart to run events?

pomspeed
05-07-2010, 02:17 PM
Yes, I happen to know and yes you need a rallycross specific safety steward. I've spoken with Scott and we can get both of you trained at the next 2 events at PC, woohoo.

s2kreno, of course you can rallycross a Forester. The only Subie that shouldn't be rallycrossed is a Tribeca.

As soon as you all get that VW ready, bring it on down. I'd say leave prep for stock class and throw some snow type tires on it. Keep it simple and have fun. Rallycross is like autocross in the rain, 93% driver, 5% tires, 2% car.

Then make sure to sign up for the VW contingency with SCCA.

Here's the link.

If things work out, and I hope they will. We will be hosting the Western States Championship event at Prairie City(PC) on June 19th and 20th. If not there, then probably Thunderhill.

PC is an obvious better, closer site for the Nevada folks.

AlexR
05-10-2010, 12:41 PM
a bit late but yes on forrester, Snowshadow will be coming down in one, i've seen forrestors win their class before.

snow tires, or all seasons work. I catch people on autoX tires at times. RE070s! just remember to pump your tires up extra. I'll be there with an air tank and my navigator (John) has a pump so feel free to hit me up for air, tips, a ride along if work groups permit. etc, etc,

I always tell people to start with 40 PSI :) though more can be helpful too.

Hi Brent,

It's really great to see your presence here, and thanks for your advice and guidance!

Question - if there is significant rain, does a rallycross event go on anyway? (I'd guess yes, but I'm also imagining mud-slide-land.)

Thanks.

this isnt NASCAR....we will race in the rain!!!!

AlexR
05-12-2010, 05:44 PM
It depends on the Venue, most don't care. Thunder Hill won't allow a rain RallyX anymore because the last time we had one, the Porsches guys were complaining (as the very last 100 feet of exit from the race track was shared by us, and was muddy)

I think that was a small part in thunder hill becoming less friendly to rallyX

But normally no you don't cancel it. the last rallyX i ran Sonoma SCCA event .. 3-4 weeks ago it was raining heavy all day. we did reduce the number of runs , to try and keep people out of the rain a bit.

Debbie, glad to be here. Enjoyed chatting with Scott about Reno considering a rallycross program. Yes we can compete in the rain, it's not the "most" fun, but it is fun. Thankfully, we are expecting mid 80's with partly cloudy skies.

So when will the regions club car be ready? Remember to always carry spare tires/wheels.<-attempt to stay on topic, hehehe.

Ok threadjacker(hmm Ill have the admin change your name )

I'll have the car in my garage this weekend...it has a set of 14" steely's on ut with 50% all seasons....I have a set of oem 14" alloys in the yard I will donate to the cause....What do you think about a skid plate to protect the oil pan as different drivers will be abusing it??...if you have any RallCross sticker you would like to donate to the ause...send them back with Scott

Ok no a plee to the club...if anyone has a set of 14" snow tires(195/60x14) post up the sizes and we will be happy to remove them from you garage

pomspeed
05-26-2010, 12:25 PM
Sorry Pat, I read this a while ago, but didn't respond. So is the car ready to win some VW contingency money?
Skid plate is good to have, but not mandatory. If the car is ready to rallycross and there is time to kill, put a skid plate on it. We had someone rallycross a new mini without any issues at the last event.

For tires, I go over to Ray's Tire Exchange on Wells ave. they have an unbelievable selection of tires. Yes I drive all the way to Reno to get my rallycross tires, they are a great bunch of folks, they even have a shop dog and Taco John's is just down the street.

So get 3-4 folks together and plan to come down on June 19th-20th for the SCCA Western States Championship rallycross.

I've got some 185/60/14" tires. 2 Snow tires, and two cheapo all seasons ... asll of them are 185/60/14
The bad, snow tires are 12 years old, all seasons don't have much grip, they are on my car right now, so you'll have to wait for me to find something else to drive on.
the good: FREE

Does it turn on?
does it drive forward?

if yes to both, congratulations you are ready to rally cross :)

Though i understand wanting to setup a car to do well in a given event before entering, and if you need to go over some basic maintance items then rarr, get cracking :P

clean up the car? if you show up with a super clean car you'de better win first place or you'll get ragged on (at least by me) :) :)

Pat, how many people are working to get the car ready? Don't spend to much, this isn't for looks, just functionality. Should've gone to pick n pull and get used shocks, they can blow out just like new ones if the car is abused to much. Don't worry about that though, we use a tractor and water truck to make the course as smooth as we can and we just had a new Mini Cooper run at the last event, never even touched the front lip (overcompressed suspension).

AlexR
06-11-2010, 09:24 AM
shocks through your hood sounds like it would slow you down more than hitting cones. :(

pick n pull had a half off special Last weekend. :( think they do a 1/3 off sometime soon though

So is the car done now? The next event at Prairie City is scheduled for Sept. 19th. It's also a National Challenge event, I received my $750 from the last event from Subaru/SCCA. VW has $200 available for you guys, but you have to compete....and win.

I am finishing up a Datsun/Nissan Pulsar NX and Jerry has a Ford Festiva both of these cars are being built on our self imposed $800 budget I paid $150 for the car and have put about $500 in to it. Jerry paid $600 and has bought tires for $125(turns out Discount tire gave him a $100 rebate so $25 for 4 tires mounted) got to love those 12” tires. With any luck we will be running the cars at the Sept 19 Prairie City event

Those should hold for awhile.

You might want to consider putting a steering limiter on the rack to prevent people from going full-lock. It's easy to blow out a CV if you crank it hard over and punch it and happen to hit a rut all at the same time.
