I swapped turbos and need to rework my down pipe. I need about 6-7 welds done. Is there anyone on here with a portable welder that can weld stainless that would be willing to come weld some stuff in my driveway? I am sure we could negotiate something for your time.

I needed the same thing done not too long ago to repair some cracks in a subframe on my car. The response I got was:
a) welding outdoors is iffy if there's any wind, unless you use messy flux-core wire
b) not many people have mobile welders, it's much easier to bring the part to the welder than the other way around
I ended up loading my car up on the trailer and hauling down to Benson Bros. to get my subframe repaired. If you're just doing a bit of exhaust pipe, can you line things up in the car and mark them w/ a sharpie, then bring the part to a muffler shop for welding? Perhaps have them just tack it up so you can take it home and test fit it all before bringing it back for the final welding?
I'm sure the Benson Bros. could handle it, as well as C&C (I had Dave build the exhaust on my SVX from scratch and he did an awesome job).

I know of 2 people that could probably come over with a welder (roll your car into the garage .. or hold up a large sheet of wood/metal anything to defeat the wind?
but C&C does kick ass!! they just fixed up some fuel injectors for me and did an alignment (from hell) on my rally car!

Dean went thru this a couple of months ago, trying to use a small welder, don't know how he made out.
A normal portable mig welder setup won't have the proper gas mix to do a really good weld. It takes a much higher percent of argon in the mix to do stainless than what's in the normal tank. Miller even recommends that the argon be mixed with helium.
Your best bet if you want a quality weld is to use a tig, C&C, Benson.
I'd think your chances to come up with a brittle weld from a portable are pretty high.

Could you put me in contact with one or both of them?
