View Full Version : anything new for 2010?
What's everyone doing for 2010? any new mod's? new class? car? Race, TT, or solo. This forum is getting boring. Let's hear from everyone!
I am going to Nasa H2 with the Honda. 230 lbs heavier 25 less hp but it is as fast due to new spring rates, well placed ballast, stiffer chassis and aero. Also going to try and run a 2-3 scca STU races. Ran a 2:06 flat at T-hill on 1/3/10 in H2 trim. With a little more ajusting I think I can get more out of it.
Planning on running Solo in the Subi, the only thing new is the class letter B instead of A.
here is a pic the honda in H2 trim.

Vic,
Good luck with the Honda in the 2010 race season! Keep us posted on how things go.
I have no changes (save for CS class letters). I may look for another ride. Maintaining the RX8 is getting old.

Need to fix the S2k up for Solo since Fernley is gone. Not sure what I should do first though or where I should get it done (1 sem autoshop is not enough for a DIY project). Opinions gladly welcomed :)

If it's still Stock eligible, I'd say stick there. You have fantastic tires, and it's an amazing car to drive even without mods, so why bump a class?

You can do Cat-back 70mm single is the most power (3-5HP) also noisy but you'll save a lot of weight. I have single 70mm and it so loud my wife won't drive it. Many have a bigger front sway bar too. Good tires and some alignment should be it.
now we are getting some where. good to here from you guys.
the best driving training you can get outside of your car is skiing. anyone doing any? i have about 18 days in so far.
My STI is being fixed, 1 block is is ready for rebuild and the other is being rebored. Injectors are at C&C for testing. Prototype KB-Silvolite pistons should be built in the next couple weeks. Need to get the heads looked at and going.
Forged Pistons lock me into SM.

I've changed the air intake on the STI, since a cone ended my old Cold-air intake setup...Otherwise, I may run BSP if there is going to be a PAX championship, or SM with the rest of the subies if there's not. Oh, and I'm adding mudflaps to help with the gravel issues

Not sure. If there was RFR I was thinking turbo plus whatever suspension stuff made sense. Solo, not sure. But the one I have now doesn't handle like the 06 I had (at least not before I wrecked it). I know the biggest fix is the driver but I'd like to set the car up too.

I'm doing whatever is the cheapest, so that's either going to be CSP in the Miata - finally putting on some parts I've had in the garage for years (sway bars, strut bar, maybe a home made Cold Air Intake - can't afford to put any money into it), or maybe the new STR, which ever has the most other cars entered I guess. Adam is going to be running the RX 7 in AS, since I already have some tires for it.
What is the general opinion on tires at Stead next year? Will the surface be good enough for high-quality 140 street tires, or will we need M/S?

Top street tires are the ticket. Cory, Matt and I proved that pretty definitively.

I think a good street tire or a fully treaded R-compound tire (ie: Toyo,Pirrelli,Nitto) softness for grip and grooves to spit out the ball bearings you would otherwise be riding on top of. An all wheel drive button might help also.

Hey Nat, where did you get your stuff done?
I did most of the work with my brother in my garage. Roll bars, Brake Pads, Alignment.
I and my friend installed the cat-back exhaust at his shop. He have a lift so it lot easier. It's Cat-back so it easy bolt on no welding. Cheap but not recommended.

My upgrade plan for the year. I will just show up at the first event, see what falls off the car and decide if it’s needed or not. That is if I can get it out of my shed

I'm working on silencing the Rotary, at least enough to meet sound limits at Laguna Seca. Maybe a bolt-on supertrap.
I've got a NASA event at Infinion on Feb 20-21 and a HPDE at Laguna Seca March 4th & 5th.

Go with a big giant chambered muffler for the best noise reduction. If it's big enough it shouldn't hinder flow much.

I don't see anything on the NASA calendar for 2/20&21 but I do see something for 3/20&21.
I have a 2 1/2 in. supertrap if you want to borrow it. On my car it makes about 91db at 9000 rpm. It is weld on at this time. You could weld it to a clamp on adaptor if you want.
I have a 24 disc Supertrap I band clamp on the end of my exhaust for Laguna. Works like a charm. Drops a full 16 DB.

I've already got a big flow-through Lava Rock on there, if I do a big chambered muffler it'll have to be hung transverse across the rear valance, probably not my first choice. Thanks for the idea though.

In Sacramento the times adjusted by the PAX factor decides the placing in Street Tire class. As a result there are typically 5 or 6 drivers within a 1 second spread in Street Tire class. I suspect that you could have that type of close competition in CSP in Reno in 2010.

Kevin's right, I'm thinking about what will be running locally from the Reno region, anything that comes up from Sacto or the Bay area is going to be better prepped than my car, ir-regardless of class. I think we'll have a very competitive local group in CSP if those who are thinking about it run there, but STR could very well see Honda's that ran in AS or ASP last season. If a real national level CSP car shows up, we're all toast anyway.

BRAKES
A. The make and material of brake linings may be changed.

Considering those Drilled rotors are hurting your braking performance why not buy some blanks, make the car Faster, and end up at a higher preparation level for your class. ?
And yes I'm soliciting for competitors. So much so I'll even contribute 5$ on it !
So dean your block + 4 stock pistons and i'm A-Ok for BS ? I'm in! (I'de tried ignoring it, but it just doesn't seem to go away) or you are saying All i probably need is a Hone, and 4 stock pistons... Sounds like when my rally car gets done with its "surgery" my sti will have to go in ...

Nat go to Kragen and buy the cheapest rotors they have. Put your x-drilled rotors in the boxes and hang on to them till you sell the car. They look cool but don't do much for performance.
You can then run B-stock and the rotors will last you as long as you own the car as long you do good brake maintenance. If you go back to running track events your time in solo will only have made you a better and faster driver.

I do have stock rotors for track day with my race pad. My x-drilled just for show no go. I'll be happy to do all the prep work (alignment, race tires, brake pads & rotors) for a day at the track but for 6 min auto-x. I'm too lazy to do that.
I run my solo alignment year round. I don't notice much difference in tire wear. I guess the rotors is a different story if you want to run the x-drilled when you are not racing. Since the lateral Gs are not as high in solo it is not nessasary to run as radical negative camber. I believe their are limits on camber in stock anyway.
