Ever since my wife got me the New York Times, Sunday Edition, I've been annoying friends and associates all over the country by sending links to Times articles they may not see elsewhere. Here's one describing a newly developed pedrestrian safety system from Volvo that will be available on 2011 S60's. If the past is any indicator, this may follow Vehicle Dynamic Control (under it's many manifistations), and other safety systems as mandated standard equipment. Those of us who drive in a continual state of "enhanceed situational awareness" (yeah, right :)) may roll our eyes over yet another intrusion of Big Brother into our vehicles, but reserve judgment until you read the article.
2008 stats for peds: 4,378 dead; 60,000 injured. BTW, equipment that recognizes four footed critters is under development.
