So, how did everyone do? I saw alot of Novice drivers from the school come out and put there training to good use. The kart was fun. It was very nice learning some new stuff and no longer thinking about points. I started out around 58 seconds and dropped down to 55. Thanks to all the kart guys help, I now have a direction to go with the tuning of the kart. Thanks to MikeK for hanging around, smelling my exhaust, pushing me after I stalled and helping me pick up the beast. Dean, you set up a nice course and I think everyone enjoyed it.:)

Dean And Jim put on a great evet.....tried to flat foot the slalom on my last run.....y'all can guess the outcome on that move:). cant wait for the next 2 weeks to pass....then back at it....

please dont tell Dean his course was good.....his head will swell to epic proportions....

Is 50 feet between slalom cones the set standard? Think I'd like to see a faster slalom in the future.

nope. If you read the rule book 45' is the min for a slalom...when I do a course i sometimes make a progressive spaced cones....with a 5' increase or decrease....just to mess with your minds...

Man, first event on r-compounds and all I can think is "why didn't I try this before?"

That was brilliant. I placed about the same in PAX as last year (toward the end of last year), so I'm thinking the T factor is fair.

54.9 :D

Cody ended up behind me by like .2 I think (after the help from the calculator).

Unfortunately there was no one else in ESP.

Actually Alex R took A stock today with an amazing set of runs. I can't remember the rest of the times though, but they were mixing it up pretty good.

Alex kicked some serious ASS today in A-stock today taking it by about .7 after the ajustment. Randy J. would have had me by a .1 if he would not have coned on his last run. Dave J. split me and Alex. Congrat's Alex! See you all in June

I guess I didn't knock all the rust off during test and tune. I ran pretty crappy times today, and had some brake issues with the car. Hopefully I will have all of that ironed out by the next event.

Outstanding brakes, and cooked tires! Car feels AWESOME! Coulda been faster with better rubber, which I will have on for the next event! sweet...

Thanks again to everybody involved with putting the weekend together!

If I remember right, the slaloms we did for the October event last year were about 65-70' spaced. Something like that, I am pretty sure it was more than 50. They will be the same this year.

There is a rough rule that fast race tired cars can make about 1 MPH per foot of slalom spacing. I know on the run I nailed the slalom on I was in the powerband of second at basically the same speed I went through the corner before, so I am betting I was near or over 40MPH through it. A perfectly reasonable Solo speed. :)

And of course the Karts want longer spacing on their straightaways. :p

The course was Great. i had to do some really really hard braking at ... 4 points in the course. with a lot of blending in other areas..

I ran a 57.8 (featured drifting the first 2-3 right handers while bouncing off my rev limiter in 1st. I didn't mean to, but once i had my car in that position i couldn't lift off the gas until where i did, or else i would have spun out, Or that's what i thought) 56.0 , 55.658 , then a 55.0 + 1 , the cone i hit was more due to jerking the wheel, than the speed i was carrying through that section. a 54.9 (or sub) was very do-able in my car yesterday but i couldn't eek it out.

This event Rocked! Great course Jim and Dean !!! thanks for the hard work!

So, I gotta ask, Did he kick serious ASS with R-Comps on the car or by using the Street Tire Factor and a calculator, (.7 is huge)?
There's a rumour that an "A" Stock Lady put the smack down on the whole class and beat evrybody---could someone confirm this.....

True, she won by a thousandth of a second over Dave J. 54.617 to 54.618. So I take it you talked to Jay already, probably on his way home from the event.

Please keep comments on the fairness of street tire, PAX, etc in the appropriate forum/thread. This is not the place to comment, especially when it implies the class winner is undeserving of the win.

Many thanks to Dean & Jim, and everyone else who pitched in with extra effort to pull off the opening weekend.

IMO, the 50' slalom spacing feels shorter because of the # of slalom cones. If it were a 4-5 cone slalom, it may not even have been noticeable - but I do think that was a good design to slow people down before flying through the finish gate.

While working station 4 during the 3rd run group, we saw a few people getting lost, or almost getting lost, after the 180 degree right-hander (after the chicane). Saw a higher than normal # of DNF's there. Then when driving it, I could see how it could be confusing. I was wondering if maybe one of the cones that marked that section earlier in the day, blew down and wasn't noticed.

So Nick: I hope that lady you rode with had fun with her runs, and hopefully she'll come back. She worked at our course station, and being out there with that freezing cone-blowing-over force wind was brutal.

Its usually worse? wow. It was sunny and looked beautiful. but it was mighty windy. The few folks i brought down from Tahoe loved the event! Paul had actually taken the novice school last year, and then only made 1 autox event. (and 4 rallyx events) he said he was pleased with the school. he said taking the class a 2nd time was really helpful. I couldn't imagine having more fun than i did this past weekend :D
(well maybe if the 93 would have made it down on saturday) but that's a minor detail!

So it snowed one year? too bad i didn't find autoX before 06 ... *sniffle*

Since I wasn't at the event and the comment was made the "He kicked serious ASS in A Stock", I wanted to know the facts on how he kicked serious ASS. All I wanted to know was it equal cars on equal tires or were there other forces at work. (.7) is a huge margin of victory. I congratulate him on the win---good job!!!!!

nmhansen

The other equal car (another STi) was also on street tires. The A-Stock vettes were all on race tires.

Dean

...(.7) is a huge margin of victory. It really isn't in Reno, especially on an almost 60 second course. It is just over 1% and it is not unusual to see even larger margins of victory in our little region as compared to the tight competition in the 300+++ driver events with national level car and driver combinations in regions like SF.

I was one of the 3rd run group lost boys since my dnf’s where on my 2nd and 4th runs I think it had a lot more to do with the driver than the course but the idea of a phantom cone does make me feel a little better. I might have to start wearing my glasses  I did manage a 62.25 but I so wanted to break 60

Thank you Reno region. It was worth the drive from the bay area. We definately had fun. It was interesting running in the windy conditions. My car would drive a little differently when driving into the wind than it would going the other way.

Yah, where's Bill Herron (Sp?) to come teach us ESP Subys a lesson with his black Camaro like he did last year? I miss having multiple people to compare times too sans calculator.

As I said on SECCS, even with Nick graciously giving me a ride along, I didn't figure out how to take the hairpins without DNF'ing, until the last run.

I had a great time this weekend! Thanks to all that had a hand in that.

Yeah, it was a late one writing the directory parsing code that automatically builds the results links based on uploaded FTP files. But now, as soon as MikeK has the results generated, he's just one FTP upload away from having them posted. No more waiting on me to upload them.

I'm hoping we'll be able to start seeing results posted day-of as long as Mike doesn't have to do any auditing of them. But that will most likely hinge on how smooth the registration process becomes.

If you go to the main page (www.renoscca.org), in the left hand navigation menu under Solo Homepage, there is a link to Event Results. Also, on the main page you can scroll to the bottom of the page and the results should be there in the lower right hand corner.

Class, PAX and Raw times are available to look at.
