Well, seems I ruffled a few feathers the first time I posted. I'll try not to do that this time and not upset anyone. I have gone through the site several times but I am unable to find the rules on the cars and what makes a class. Whether it be stock, modified, whatever. Now before I get some list again on how I'm posting in the wrong place or I didn't look in the right place or how I’m gonna get my ass handed to me, or how I need to show everyone more respect and back the train the f**k up, I looked, and I can't find it. OK I'm retarded; give me your list on how stupid you think I am. While you’re at it, include the info I'm asking about please. I'll try to filter it out with my limited capabilities. Just remember, some day you may meet me face to face because I really want to join a good local group. Question then is, is all that pre determined hate going to stay with you? You never know, I actually might be an OK guy. And as far as attitude goes that every one thinks I need to loose….I never saw a winner in life or racing or anything else that was a meek little brook trout that hid in the shadows and ever got any where in life. I’ll try to keep it in check but it ain’t gonna go away. Sorry

The only real issue I'm seeing with your posting is that you seem to be expecting to find the national SCCA site on our little regional discussion forum. Here's all the info you requested in one spot: http://www.scca.org/home.aspx
Local events will all be listed at www.renoscca.org (http://www.renoscca.org) and not here in the forum itself. There are some small differences in the specifics of how our Solo program generally runs here locally, but nothing drastic. Our PDX/Club Trials/Track Trials program is run to the letter of national rules as far as I know, except for our local CT/TT classing system which we use in conjunction with all the other SCCA sanctioned classes.
Once you've found the Club Racing classing and rules on scca.org, feel free to come back here for help with clarifications or suggestions. You'll find there's plenty of good natured smack talk and bench racing going on here, but it helps to make it to a few events before jumping in on that so folks have a better read on you.

SCCA.org look under SOLO Section and follow the links to car classification or just post what your car is and what mods you've done and most people on here can get you close.
As far as Attitude--look at it this way--Kyle Busch is a good driver, but eventually his attitude will lose him his sponsor and his ride. Attitude is great but you need to back it up with being able to perform.

"A" Stocker.. What can I say? Seems you have a certain distaste in your mouth for me. Seems I rubbed you the wrong way.... For someone that isn’t even a local and posts that they live in CA and not NV you seem to have a lot of pull. Respect... That's what you have from a Nevada based club when you live in Auburn. Must have taken some doing. You must be pretty good. You talk about me getting my ass handed to me... I fully expect that. In fact I expect it a lot because I have never even watched one of these races much less driven in one... that’s not true i guess... I started specifically searching Utube a few weeks back to see what was up. Question is… are YOU the one that is going to be doing the handing? Just remember, because I have never done this type of driving, doesn’t mean I just got my license yesterday. I don’t know what your problem is with me but just so you know. I appreciate your focus.

I’m too old to keep illegally street racing
This statement is my problem, your probably a nice guy. We lose more sites, because we get lumped into this crowd. So, when someone say's that they street race, it usually takes alot for my opinion of them to change. This is just my opinion: When they catch people street racing it should be immediately 1yr in jail and their car is destroyed for a minimum, if they cause an accident it's life no parole. of course that's my opinion on DUI's too.
I have nothing against you, hell for that matter I give you all the credit in the world for going the legal racing route. IF I get a chance to run Reno this year, I'll buy the first beer.
You still haven't told Us what your car is and the mods?

Then add the cell phonies in there too and I'm right with you. They've proven it's as bad as being drunk. And it's not like these idiots are talking someone though brain surgery or anything important--it's the height of arrogance to think that your conversation is worth more than the safety of everyone on the road. I need a destructo-laser like they used to have in cartoons--you zap the idiot and render hm car-less and bumping his stupid butt down the road.

Any new rules of interest for ESP or in general this year? I guess I'll find out when I get protested.

Does your car have all the stock interior?
All the pick-up points for the suspension are in the stock locations?
To run in SSM and be competitive, just looking at the curb weight of your car--you need to drop about 400lbs, just to get to the 2900lbs the car only has to weigh.
These are just a few things to look at.... another thing to do, is come over the hill and check out Andy Mckee's SSM RX-7 it is the maxed out version of a SSM Car. There are none better as far as this car goes...

You can now replace brakes and radiators, provided all replacement parts are the same or greater in size and weight. In other words, you can now use your track car with upgraded brakes and radiators in SP, which I find to be awesome. Especially since the RS I bought came with both.

Ah, well that's cool that they allow heavier components now.

Awesome! Think they'll ever allow a larger hood scoop in SP?
Kevin M
04-21-2009, 04:44 PM
Not likely. But they allow it in STX. ;)
That's what I'd run if we didn't have the T modifier. But I like being able to run higher than stock boost and a lightened flywheel.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the ST ruleset myself. Especially now that you have no issues using an SP car as a track car, thanks to this year's changes.

Yes it has all the stock interior and the suspension are all stock locations. 400lbs seems like alot even gutting the car. I'm liking the other option that Pat said... what was it.. "or just run in novice and learn the ropes" That seems like a pretty good option for starters. That is if I can run in that class with the upgrades. Is there a "I don't know sh*t" class that you can run a modified car in? I think that would be the best starting choice for now.

yup that would be the novice class.....talk to as many people you can....get rides, ask for an intructor to ride with you...the main thing is....have an open mind....you will see cars out there you think in you mind you should beat....but they spank you on time(experienced)....dont get dicouraged...just keep on learning....Pat

That 2900lbs was all the car has to weight to run that class, most of the SSM cars are around 2200 to 2400 or lighter. Running SSM at 2900lbs, your gonna need motor and lots of it. Starting in Novice and asking a million questions is a great idea.
kdrags68
04-23-2009, 10:18 AM
2200 to 2400 lbs? Hah! I would have to cut the dammed thing in half and make it into a flatbed pick up to get down that low. And then I would have to hire someone to drive it for me so I don't add the weight right back to it as soon as I sit in the seat. Maybe a woman of asian decent or something. Keep it to less than 100lbs for the driver. Then you run into a whole other mess with the seat having to be relocated and so forth. Thats a can of worms. I think I'll just do novice for now. I really don't want to chop my car up and I can't afford to import.
AlexR
04-23-2009, 11:59 AM
Yeah that's a lot of weight to drop, but that's only if you are concerned with having a "Maxed" out car for your class. It seems like at least 2/3s of the cars at our reno events are not maxed out for their classes.
Still you can run your first 6 as novice, decide you want to join a class and have your times moved into your newly chosen class. (assuming we kept that rule in our local supps)
So there's no reason not to run Novice for a little while.
I missed where you said you are coming from Street Racing, to autoX. but I personally think this is great. :) What we should be doing is leveraging this to lay claim that AutoX is helping to clean up our streets of illegal racing.
And what you should do is keep it to the track , AutoX, Track Days, and Drag Strips have everything you want :)
Welcome to the world of sanctioned racing !! C-ya Saturday (Blue STI, pink pig stickers, probably a very dirty car)
