I just signed up for this forum thinking that I was going to join the Reno SCCA racing circuit. I see that most the posts are close to a year old and very few are current or talking about anything relevant. Is there a current Reno SCCA association and are there races to be attended? I would like to join and race if that is possible. I spent quite some time on the forums but it seems that it is really dead and there isn't much going on and other than bad asphalt at stead.... Anyways, I’m not trying to bring a negative feel here. I am new to SCCA racing... as in I have never done it before and would really like to get into it in a local chapter instead of driving to SAC or Chico every weekend. How would I go about doing this, and what are the specs for what I can race and is there really any racing done in the Reno area? I read every post on this web site. Most are from 08 and not current. I read the rules but it seems they haven't been updated, or at least say they are 09 rules. Is this for real and if it is then where do I sign up?

Is this for real and if it is then where do I sign up and for God’s sake where and when can I race you? And if all you have is that crappy 89 CRX that you painted flat black and put a cat back exhaust on after you stripped the interior just to save that extra 12 pounds of weight but the added a 4 foot sub box with 2 15” in it and your “new” motor that has 97,000 miles on it with a short shifter and an original clutch, and oh yea needs a little TLC “but will run with the best of them” I would rather drive to Sac then deal with the garbage I see thinking that they have a clue. Let me know if Reno is for real or not.
1st--Your New, You don't rate having an attitude yet
2nd-- right now SOLO is trying to figure out where to run, since Stead redid their lot and it has too much gravel to race on.
3rd-- Reno is for real, they have a very good program.
4th--I'm betting since you have never auto-x'd, your first event your going to get your ass handed to you.
5th--If your so inclined to come over the hill and race in Sac, your best bet will be to keep the attitude at home or don't come at all.
6th--Your a street racer which gives you "No Cred." with the Auto-X Community or the Road Race Community for that matter.
7th--Read the SCCA Rules not just the Reno Region Supps and make sure your car is legal to run.
8th--Really you come on ranting and raving and you expect people to be nice to you and help you out.
9th--Show alittle respect to this forum and the Reno people and you'll get alot of help and go along way--you come in dumping on people and your on your own.
10th--BACK THE "F'n" TRAIN UP AND START ALL OVER, AND ABOVE ALL "BE NICE"

Complete agreement. Those of us with Lotuses, Z06s, S2ks, SuperDoos, Miatas with jet engines in them, etc., and very very experienced drivers would love to let you use your car to clean the gravel off the Stead site. And the ladies (who cook as well as they drive and that's awesome) will be happy I'm sure to make you a crow pie. You'll need it. Jeez, I spent plenty of money, have received plenty of instruction, and have to admit that I still have no innate driving ability--it's okay. I wrote an article a few years ago during my first season marveling at the helpfulness of the clued-in to the clue-less and the complete lack of vehicle snobbery in this wonderful club. Don't be the first to start that crap. Please.

We all make mistakes from time to time. Looks like Autocross has it's first "local or home" event April 24-25 out at Fernley, so hopefully you could make it to experience Reno's version of SCCA???
Again, good luck (with the new friends part) if you do come out! :D

Dude, no worries. In case you haven't noticed a lot of us just like to be sarcastic (and sometimes it's appropriate). They could call us the Reno Region (never say Chapter or you'll be in hot H2O again) of the Snarky Car Club of America. So do what I do--nicely throw your inexperienced self on the mercy of the local populace and drivers will help you. If not, we will take great pleasure in kicking your um, tailpipes. And some dumb noob might accidentally back over your compressor.
Go to www.renoscca.org (http://www.renoscca.org) and read everything (except the results section, unless you want to). The schedule and docs on there regarding road racing are current and accurate. However, the Solo (AutoCross) schedule has been changed (and will continue to do so) due to the Stead surface issue.
Here is the latest info regarding Solo:
Reno Region SCCA members and friends,
Here's good news for our Solo enthusiasts. Our revised Solo season schedule will start April 25-26 with two points events at Reno-Fernley Raceway! We're currently working on getting the required sanction and other approvals, so not all the details are firm yet. But, you can expect the courses to have much the same character as last fall's Reno-Fernley Solo events (that's so we can shorten the approval process). The daily schedule will be the same as our other events, and the run group order will be what we had previously published for the cancelled May 2-3 Stead events -- that is, Saturday WBYG, Sunday GWBY.
As far as the rest of our 2009 Solo season is concerned, remember that our May events will be the North/South Challenge at Hawthorne, Memorial Day weekend (look for the event flyer on our website, renoscca.org (http://renoscca.org/)) . And, we've lined up three additional weekends at Reno-Fernley Raceway: Aug. 22-23, Sept. 19-20, and Oct. 17-18. Keep in mind that there are several different areas of R-FR where we can hold Solos, so those late summer/early fall events should feature different courses and different challenges. We're also working on sites for June and July events -- we may have more news to share in the next few weeks!

Apparently there is info on the website that tells you how to sign up for the Yahoo automated email service that got that message (and many others) into my inbox. Between the site, the emails, and this forum, you have access to all the info you need.

Id like you to meet Dave Hironaka. Hes not in this region, he is in Las Vegas Region where I came from last year. He is the epitomy of your description there, minus the sub box...

Now why should you be worried about this honda you ask? Because hes two full seconds faster then anyone in his class...and that person in second, thats actually his wife driving that same car...

So if you dont want to come out and get beat by CRX's, you may want to just keep street racing haha. In autocross, its not necessarily the car but the driver that puts down the good times. This isnt your street flagging first one to the end of cars street racing bud, we actually turn corners here. I know, its a whole bright new world out there!
And no, you didnt rub me the wrong way hehe. Im just giving you a shot of truth because I thought the same thing bringing my evo out there the first time, only to get spanked by guys that have been doing this 10 years and have half my horsepower. Come on out to reno fernley, and by all means introduce yourself if you see me (gray evo) because Im new too. Ive met a few in the club already, so I can introduce you around a little. Lets see what your made of, then you can come back and talk some smack

No. it's those mean people who put this gun to your head (I don't remember it but I KNOW they must have had one) and make you do all those shots the night before and kill every brain cell you have before race day--THEY bring the pain. And just in case you might beat them anyway they threaten you with the revelation of video coverage (Oops, never mind, that was OUR team). Well, see y'all this year, probably no better at driving but much less hung over!

LOL! Your absolutely right 20PSIMR. I overstepped my bounds and now I'm eating crow. That’s OK too. I'm a man and can admit I was wrong. I went out to Fernley on Sat and watched for a few hours and saw two Hondas doing their time trials and believe me, I woulda got spanked! I didn't get the chance to meet everyone. But everyone I met was really nice and very informative and helpful. I did go ahead and sign up for SCCA (thanks for all the help Carol) while I was out there. So, maybe I'll see you guys out there and I'll get to eat some more crow.
