It is time to submit the sanction request for our first PDX/Time Trial scheduled for April 18-19. I would like to do PDX on Saturday and Club Trials/Track Trials on Sunday. This will give us more track time for the everyone and give the Instructors the ability to focus on their PDX students and not have to try and work on their Club Trials or Track Trials cars between sessions.

There are two major downsides however. First, we will need at least 30 PDX entrants at $175 each to break even financially. Second, we will need Instructors. Time Trials Rules require an instructor to novice student ratio of 1:1 and an intermediate student ratio of 1:2. Advanced students require only 1:4. A proposed event schedule for a PDX is posted. It gives the PDX drivers 1 1/2 hours of seat time. Instructors can run in the first session with the Advanced PDX Drivers and will also have a separate session, the last session of the day, to drive as a group. (or we could combine the instructors with the advanced PDX and let them drive together).

To minimize the first downside financial risk we are negotiating with the Track to try and find ways to reduce costs. The second concern is the number of instructors. I expect we can bring in sufficient instructors to handle a 30-35 car PDX with 10 Novices if we initiate a Reno Region Time Trials Instructor program. The SCCA is working on finalizing a national program but we could issue our own licenses in advance of this. The suggestion is to bring in new inexperienced instructors at an Instructor - Apprentice Grade; drivers that have experience instructing in PDX type events would be licensed at an Instructor - Official Grade; and instructors that are currently licensed as Time Trials Chief Driving Instructors would be issued an Instructor - Specialist Grade license.

Most people I have spoken with are enthusiastic about instructing if they can do it without having to do it and try and prepare for their own Time Trials session at the same time. Their is also some enthusiasm for expanding the instructors beyond the drivers currently driving in competition (Insturctor - Apprentice Grade).

The guestion is will we have enough. Please weigh in and let us know your thoughts and in particular, are you willing to become a Reno Region Time Trials Instructor!!

Dave, Im sure you are aware of this. We should be submitting these:

http://www.scca.com/documents/Club%20Forms/form-timetrial-official.pdf

Also note, the rules require the sanction numbers to be on the application but, the application doesn't have a specific place for them.

Hi Bill,
Officials Licenses renew automaticaly when you renew your membership. Apprentice Grade licenses do not have any participation requirements and Official Grade or Specialist Grade require you to work a number of events, or get approval from your TT Program Manager to confirm your experience level. The honor system is used if you are renewing an existing license at the same grade.

If you are upgrading to a higher grade them the National Office will request that the Program Manager sign off on that upgrade. In the future the second page of the license application/renewal form will go away!

Be sure to go online at the SCCA website and indicate all of the events you worked. You will get a discount from your membership fee based upon the number of days worked. I don't have all the details but Carol outlined the program in the January Road & Tach. Any questions give her a call at our home phone (775) 267-4845 or her cell (775) 450-1394. She is working all day today so call tomorrow (Wednesday)

Thanks,Dave. Who is the TT Program manager, you?

Also, guys like Nate (zspeed) who want to start instructing should fill out the form to get the "apprentice" grade noted on their license.

George,

Good, we need to complete a Time Trials Driving Instructors license application. The application form is available online on the SCCA website. I suggest you request an "OFFICIAL" grade license. Note, the application may still call it a Chief Driving Instructor but it will be issued as a Driving Instructor.

The form can be located under Club Racing, forms and publications. Be sure to select the Time Trials application not a Race Official.

Any guestions give me a call, 775-450-1394.

Dave,

I plan to CT again for 2009 and like the idea of helping the club out where I can. I can instruct if needed, apprentice level, and will fill out the application. Will you be at the 21-Mar volunteer training to discuss in more detail?

That's cool Chris, I think you'll make a good instructor.
I know dave will be there on the 21 for sure. I'll be there also. I'll probably print a couple of those forms and bring them along.
Bill

Also note that we will be doing annual tech inspections if you plan to bring your car.

I would be interested in being a novice instrutor as well. I dont really know anybody, I just moved up here from Las Vegas but Ive done 5 track weekends at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch and autocrossed all year as well. I know alot of people that will be at the north-south challenge that will be upset I am competing against them now haha! Just let me know what I need to do, and I will be at tech inspection at C and C this weekend as well.
