HISTORY IS MADE

Well, the first ever Reno Region Road Race is in the history books. The event ran exceptionally smoothly, you would have thought we were old hat at this stuff. In actuality we were new but many of the Officials and Specialty Chiefs are very experienced professionals and it really showed! I can't say enough good things about the visiting officials or the 50 plus people from Reno Region that came to help and the cooperation and information sharing that took place from beginning to end. The first practice session Saturday morning started "on time" at precisely 8:30 am and the last race on Sunday started a few minutes early.

A special "Thank You" to the all the Stewards for the help and expertise on Race day, and in particular to Jim Rogaski and Gary Meeker for all of the help and guidance in advance of the event. Without their help I might never have completed the Supplementary Regulations, the schedule and getting the track certified for this race.

Through all of this, the owners and staff at Reno-Fernley Raceway worked tirelessly to accomplish the various upgrades and stayed focused on our common goal of holding this race. A lot was accomplished in a short period of time. On race weekend the entire Reno-Fernley Raceway Staff did everything in their power to make all of feel welcome and tend to all of our needs. This is an Amazing Group!

Our sponsors also played a big role in this event. Without their financial support we could not even attempt this caliber of event. "Thank You"

On race weekend we were blessed with excellent weather, hot but not extreme, dry, sunny and light wind (a gentle breeze to us here in Northern Nevada). I think the drivers were pleasently surprised with the track and the event in total. A first look at the course map and many thought, "This is a piece of cake". After their first couple laps, that changed to "wow, this is fun and challenging". Despite some rather small fields, the drivers put on a great show. Who can forget the nose-to-tail competition between the two Vees lap after lap or the two Formula Fords changing position every lap or two. The SRF Group had tremendous racing going on throughout the pack from start to finish. The fact that you can view over 80% of the track from the paddock makes watching the racing especially enjoyable at this track. Judging from the notes, emails and phone calls from many of the drivers, it seems that a good time was had by all.

Qualifying and Race results are posted in the Results section of this website. A listing of track records will be available soon.

Thank You all for participating in the Inaugeral Race to Reno!

Dave,

It was indeed a fantastic event, especially in the light of being "the first ever." Hopefully we can get a double weekend for 2009! And I intend on not finishing at the back of the SRF field next time!
