no, shoulders mounted to rear seat child safety points
no, shoulders mounted to rear seat child safety pointsMost Child Safety points are not designed to handle adult weight loads. I would not suggest using them for an adult safety device.

It worked fine for me in my blue coupe. Granted, I didn't smash in to anything though. FWIW (as discussed in the old thread on SECCS about this) the bolt was the same size and the sheet metal the same thickness as the "normal" seat belt anchors.

So you measured the bolts and sheet metal on an Evo 8 as well?
I'm not saying it's unsafe, I just have to agree with Dean in that those anchors were never designed for harnesses. It would make a lot more sense just to bolt the harnesses to the rear seat belt anchor points the way the Schroth belts are mounted.

Yea how to's all say to mount it there as well....did my homework. Before reading up on it I would have agreed with it being a bad place to put them.

They must have changed things between blue and black then... seatbelt anchors in my car are ALL 11mm, and the child seat anchors are 9mm...

The only drawback to a harness setup the way I have it is if the car is involved in a rollover. Without a roll cage, as I'm sure most of you know, harnesses are gonna ruin your day. I have triple checked with multiple sources that the child safety mounts on the rear deck on the evo are fine mounting points.
The main purpose of the harness for me is of course safety restraint, but really to hold me in the seat, as I feel it will serve its purpose just fine, while still being safe.

Ha! Okay I yield the point then. And to be honest, I won't be on the track again wothout a cage and proper harness setup, including a seat meant for competition. The cost of such things seems pretty trivial compared to the likelihood of moderate to severe injury without them in a rollover or severe impact at the track.

Agreed, as I said its fine for holding your body in place during autocross, but without a rollbar is suicide on the track. I will be using my factory seatbelt for track events.
