Does anybody here like to mess with small engines or know someone who does? I've got an old Honda generator my grandparents gave me that I'm told doesn't start or run. I got it for free, but with the price of good generators down to near $100 these days, I'm hoping to just get someone to tell me exactly what is wrong in exchange for a 12 pack, but a cheap repair would be nice too.

Did you try oil, gas, and starting it?
Most common problems are fuel delivery and spark assuming it will turn over by hand/pull cord and if 4 stroke, has oil and low oil switch works.
Cheap hoses fail and gum up carb ports. Easiest check is to see if it will fire on starter fluid. If it runs at all on that but doesn't stay running, that is likely it. swap hoses and clean carb.
I have a 1000watt Yamaha in that condition right now but haven't fixed.

Yep, there's not much to diagnos.
Kevin, if you want to check it out, you can bring it up to my place.
Should take less than an hour. But you have to do all the cord pullin"
4 miles up the Mt.Rose highway, BTW.

Bill, I will take you up on that, as soon as I have a spare two hours. I think I have that scheduled for early 2013 at this point.
