View Full Version : Reno SCCA Needs stuff!!!

Periodically, the club needs things.

While we do make some money from our events and do have some savings, we are a not for profit company and like to get things for free or as cheap as possible.

We know our members have garages, closets and attics that may have something in them that the club might be able to use and that some of our members may work for companies that might be in the position to offer discounts on the stuff the club needs to operate.

Maybe you are one of those people.

So, we will use this thread to let you know what we need and if you can help out, just let us know.

____________________________________________

Recuring needs:
Bottled water
Ice
Flour
Drywall scraps
D-Cell batteries

"One-Time" needs:

13.8Volt 6Amp or more power supply. You know you have one lying around from your CB or HAM radio days.

PCs (Notebooks preferred) 1Ghz or better w/windows XP preferred. Battery life not required really. (for timing and scoring solo and track events and possibly registration.)

PC Projector (for classroom use)

Motorola commercial/industrial UHF radios and accessories

Heavy Duty and/or Deep Cycle 6-12 volt batteries. (Old, dead or dying may be OK)

2 gauge or so wire & ends for battery/inverter wiring.

Bullhorn/megaphone

Solar panels?

1000-2000 watt generator

Stranded Cat-5 or better cable

Cable /hose storage / winders.

Traffic cones (all types)

How much of a Cat-5 do you need? I think we have some left over here at the office when we moved.

How much of a Cat-5 do you need? I think we have some left over here at the office when we moved.First, it must be stranded. The "in-wall" solid core doesn't take well to being rolled and unrolled.

Our rolls are about 300' which is about 1/3 of a standard 1000' "box"/spool.

We don't need any this second, but we do damage and wear out cables over time, so can always store it for later use.

Since I plan on being at every solo event, you guys are welcome to use my notebook. Let me know what you need me to do.

I'll also check under my car to see if I have any traffic cones to give back.

I'll also check under my car to see if I have any traffic cones to give back.We appreciate that offer and will keep it in mind, but we do not want to be dependent on "using/borrowing" critical equipment wherever possible. We don't want the liability that we might break it or the risk that it might not be available for whatever reason when we need it. We also need to be able to use it for all event types, Solo, track and whatever.

And thank you , but we already have quite a few undercarriage cones. :)

Dean, Carrie may have an old laptop to offer...She's going to check to see what system its on, etc...and get back to you.

I have a TON of CATV stranded, used to work low voltage so let me know how much you need, I can give it to you. Also About the 2 guage, I don't have two but I have 14-2 which can hold up to 20 amps (more really) so if you think that will work I can give you some of that too.

We have to be able to put RJ-45 ends on it.

Unless I am mistaken, 14-2 is solid core AC wiring. We need something that will handle about 40 AMPs DC at low loss for the 12 volt side of a 2000 peak wattage inverter system. 2 gauge stranded is recommended.

I have my stock car battery. It may or may not be usable. Want me to bring it to the next Stead event?

I have my stock car battery. It may or may not be usable. Want me to bring it to the next Stead event?Automotive starting batteries are not ideal for inverter type usage due to lower capacity and intolerance to repeated deep cycling. I'll keep it in mind though.

Dean, I've got three redtop optimas sitting in my garage. I'm saving one for use on my trailer, but if you want to see if you can get the other two to hold a charge, they're yours.

I'd be happy to see if I can get them in decent condition to hold a charge for you but will keep hoping for some more industrial/deep cycle options for our inverter system.

I have been a Motorola dealer for some 10 years, so if you need/want something give me a call at my office or post here and let me know model numbers and such and I can check my stock and or get some pricing for you. I have no problems selling it at cost or maybe a little less if I am able.

What do you estimate the recurring costs will be for the four June Solo events?

Or tell me how much you need of what and I'll estimate it with a visit to Costco, etc.

I know it was announced in Hawthorne sunday morning that a couple of the radios were missing. Were those ever found or returned?

Not true. Lots of people, okay, some people, okay, some people with vintage muscle cars, okay, some people with vintage muscle cars and bald tires, okay, some people who are novice drivers with vintage muscle cars, bald tires, and old shocks -- hit more cones than I do. So there. Anyway, if you are going to the meeting ask them to buy green cones next time please.....

Not for free, but I found a laptop for dirt cheap that would probably do the job you're asking for. If needed, I can even help chip in for it.

I'm resurrecting this thread...

The bus has killed a battery, so thought I would see what people might have lying around the garage before we go buy something...

We could use 1, 2 or more...

large car/truck and/or Heavy Duty and/or Deep Cycle 6-12 volt batteries. (Old, dead or dying may be OK)

Some 2 gauge or so wire & ends for battery/inverter wiring.

Battery switch(s)

Solar panels?

1000-2000 watt generator

12 volt charging cable for generator.

Cat-5 cables patch cables 10-15'ers wold be great.

Thanks

I have 4 10-15'ers in my trunk that I will bring to the next event. I will see what I can do for some of the longer cables but am not promising anything.

The PDX program could really use a reasonably large White Board at least for this Sat.

This will be for download and course/line discussion sessions.

Since we are on the upper course, after the morning classroom, we will be somewhere in the upper paddock with no real way to do a chalk talk without something to draw on.

Something 3-4' wide or larger would be great and however tall.

Thanks

I think I've got one I can donate... assuming I can find it, since I haven't seen it since I moved back in 2008. Should be about 3'x4' or so in size.

Are you coming to the Subaru meet tonight? I can try to bring it to you then ('cause hauling it out to the track with a trunk full of tools may be a tight fit... I'm not planning on towing with the truck).

For Sat.!!! Anybody got a working Megaphone/Bull Horn???

I know, I don't need one, :) but someone else might. We do not have a PA in the upper paddock, so it might be nice to have one.

Dean Dear, I have the club's drywall needs covered . . . not just covered, cut, stacked, stored and ready to move as needed. Its been stored in my garage since the middle of last season. And the supply is on going. My son-in-law builds houses and he brings me his scrap cuttings and my son cuts them to fit our needs. We're good.

Hi Dean, I have a couple Lifeline group 31 deep cycle batteries that are about a year old but haven't been charged in a while, the club is more than welcome to them.

I also own an inverter company ( http://www.invertersrus.com (http://www.invertersrus.com/) ), so I have tons of cable at my disposal, and obviously power inverters. No generators I'm afraid, they're the enemy.

Let me know,

Dan from the 7/30 PDX Blue group haha
