Minutes of the Regular Meeting

of the Reno Region of the SCCA

June 12, 2006

Attendees: Patty and John Evans, Loren Enstad, Jim Kunze, Kevin McDaniel, Eric Bennett, Matt Roy, Scott Perry, Nick Hanson, Charles Marshall, Jim Gandy, Carol and Dave Deborde, Kyp and Deb Johnson, Gina Pogol, Jim and Diane Whitely, John Townley, John Riggs Jr., Russ Carpenter, Don Smith, Ed Reichley.

Minutes of previous meeting: Moved to be approved by Loren Enstad, seconded by Gina Pogol. Unanimously approved.

Treasurers report: Unanimously approved, moved by Charles Marshall and seconded by Kyp Johnson.

Solo Event Sites:

The proposed event at Squaw Valley August, 12 and 13, 2006 was discussed. A motion was made and seconded to go ahead with the event by Jim Kunze and an unknown seconder, but Kyp Johnson volunteered to be the second of record. It passed unanimously to hold the Squaw Valley event. John Evans will provide details via the user group.

Discussion about a possible event at the former Wal-Mart parking lot in Carson City was held with no decisions other than to look into it. No one voiced any objections.

Club Trial Sites: Comments on whether we should continue using Lovelock (since they raised the rental of the airport and ambulance rates, and attendance isn’t growing) and if we should try to expand our use of Reno-Fernley Raceway should be sent via email to: d_deborde@charter.net or jrgandy@peoplepc.com

Communication:

Gina Pogol designed and printed a batch of flyers having a tear off “Bookmark” with information about our website, and in the body of the flyer an invitation and offer of a discounted fee (member’s rate) for everyone in the invited persons group. It is explained on the back that they got this because they have an appropriate car to Autocross, so come out and do it (paraphrased). We are encouraged to take these and put them on sporty cars wherever we see them. Gina received a round of applause in appreciation of the professional-looking flyer.

Event reports:

The North South Challenge Memorial day weekend featuring cold weather and an injury accident to a Reno course worker and the Club Trials in Lovelock on June 10 and 11, 2006 were discussed.

The spring tour put on by Jim Gandy was reported on by several tourers. Good time.

Up coming events:

Solos June 24-25, 2006 at Stead, and a 2-day Time Trial at Reno Fernley on July 22-23, 2006.

Social after the Solo: After-event gathering at Great Basin brewery in Sparks in reserved patio on June 24 about 5 pm.

Discussion made about having simultaneous Solo events during the Trials events at Reno Fernley.

Walk on items:

Question “Why do we need new members? Large cities have huge memberships and it is very difficult to put on an event.” Good answers given which may be a good topic for a newsletter article.

Scott Perry is working on a new web site, and after discussion on how to automate the registration and paying via credit card, he thought it may be possible to incorporate at least the registration and have off-line credit card swiping at the event. Problems with people having checkbooks or cash at event sign up apparently exist. A committee of Doug Driver, Scott Perry and Russ Carpenter are to try to arrange a merchant account for the credit card issue.

Dave Deborde received an invitation for Reno SCCA members (first come first served) to travel and stay in a motor home of a racer of an Historic Racing 65 Corvette at an event at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah July 31 to August 6th. Contact Dave for more information if interested. d_deborde@charter.net

Charles Marshal suggested keeping a sharp eye out in the near future if we have any new young enthusiasts charged up by a new movie coming out about “Drifting” (In Tokyo). It may precipitate some unsafe car handling on the course. Safe driving should be stressed at safety briefings.

An unofficial (for anybody, not just SCCA folks) camping event organized by John Riggs Jr is being held in a small group camping area in the “Cottonwood” campground at Frenchmans Lake on July 7-8-9. Only about 25 spots available. Pot luck food on Friday. Contact John for recommendations of what to bring for potluck and for reservations soon. Be aware there is drinking of adult beverages involved so bring your favorite beverage. jrspath@yahoo.com

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM.
