Minutes of the Regular Meeting
of the Reno Region of the SCCA
April 5, 2006
Attendees: Patty Evans John Evans Lucas Kunze, Doug Driver Russ Carpenter Jeff Neilson, Judy Girton John Riggs, Jr. Charles Marshall Mike Khamis Scott Perry Matt Roy, Carol DeBorde Dave DeBorde Jim Kunze, Loren Enstad Kevin McDaniel Dick Lewis, Chuck Johnson Wes Friesen Pat Riley, Kyp Johnson Deb Johnson Eric Bennet, Jeff Pogol Gina Pogol
Patty Evans silenced the crowd in the grand ballroom of Austin’s Restaurant at 6:30 PM, and the meeting came to order. Self introductions followed.
Minutes of Prior Meeting
Charles Marshall moved to approve the minutes from the March 1, 2006 meeting; Dave DeBorde seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report
Doug Driver delivered the treasurer’s report. A copy is attached to these minutes. Carol DeBorde moved and John Evans seconded to approve the treasurer’s report. The motion passed unanimously.
Solo School
John Evans and Lucas Kunze reported on the Solo School and the Test ‘N Tune. Both events were successful; and the Subaru Enthusiasts Car Club of the Sierras really boosted attendance.
Solo Events
Matt Roy and Scott Perry previewed the April 8th-9th event at Stead; you can bet it will favor AWD turbo cars!
Patty reminded the assembled masses that we still need chairs for some events. Dave DeBorde and Loren Enstad tentatively volunteered for July 15th-16th, and Doug Driver volunteered Jim Uchytil (and himself) to co-chair the September 9th-10th weekend in Lovelock.
Patty reported that the board decided to publish first and last names for the Solo results. The directors felt that the difficulty in dealing with initials outweighed the potential for manufacturers to use Solo participation as a weapon in warranty claims.
Our fearless leader also reminded us that event chairs must make a “best effort” to station a worker at the gate to check waivers as participants come to the event sites. Minors need a waiver signed by one parent for the first event and two parents for any subsequent events.
John Evans appealed for some volunteers to help him with the North-South Challenge at Hawthorne over Memorial Day weekend. In particular we need someone to drive the bus to Hawthorne; and in general we need lots of help.
A general discussion ensued regarding the assignment of permanent numbers. Currently we use “the book” to assign numbers, but it would be nice to have it on the website.
Time Trials
Dave DeBorde delivered a primer on the Time Trials program. The first event, which will combine a Club Trial event and a Track Trial event, will be held on April 29th.
Annual Tech
On Saturday, April 15th, we will hold an annual tech day at Summit Racing in Sparks. The intent is to provide an opportunity for members to get their annual techs – both Solo and Time Trials – while generating enthusiasm for the SCCA among Summit customers.
Walk-On Items
A qualified volunteer to serve as webmaster would be welcome. Dean Benz has filled the bill for several years and is due a break. Scott Perry will look into some website administration software.
There will be a Saturday night social following the April 8th Solo event – location to be announced.
The next general membership meeting is scheduled for May 3, 2006 at 6:30 PM at Austin’s Restaurant in Reno.
With no further business before the members, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted by Doug Driver, Secretary.
