Minutes of the Meeting
of the Board of Directors of the
Reno Region of the SCCA
January 25, 2006
Attendees: Patty Evans , John Evans, Dave DeBorde, Doug Driver, Lucas Kunze, Matt Roy, Don Smith, Carol DeBorde, Scott Perry
The meeting convened at 6:30 PM at the home of Patty and John Evans; John’s famous spaghetti was on the menu.
John began with a discussion of the upcoming autocross season. We will be able to run novices in the both the morning and afternoon run groups; there is no reason they can’t run in every run group of the day.
The discussion moved on to the proposed divisional and the NORPAC divisional series. NORPAC will require divisional participants to display a divisional sticker in an attempt to promote the series. We also have some challenges in hosting our own divisional event because we are lacking a co-chair and our timing experts will be in Montreal for the Grand Prix. There is no reason why we can’t have more than three runs – which is one of the reasons the membership is not overly enthusiastic about hosting it. We will bring it up again at the general membership meeting.
Patty then turned the directors’ attention to membership and participation goals for the region. Our membership hovers around 240. The directors discussed membership growth goals and settled on 10% as a significant yet realizable goal. Reno-Fernley Raceway will allow us to man a booth at their grand opening at the HMSA event in March, and they may also allow us to promote membership at their booth at the February RV show. We may also have the opportunity to display at Summit’s monthly shows.
Another possible source of increased volunteerism could come from reenergizing dormant members. And more social activities at our events could motivate more volunteers to participate. More active discussion on a website discussion board like autocrossforum.com could also help congeal the group.
Next up was a reprise discussion of the proposal to eliminate the PAX championship in favor of a more accurate method. After considerable discussion it was moved, seconded and carried to keep it “as is” for this year.
John reminded the group that we still have an empty spot in our schedule for August due to the unavailability of Stead. It was agreed to keep the date “open” pending a substitute site.
The directors then discussed the allocation of expenses between autocross events and time trials events. It was resolved to track expenses for each individual event and then track general (unallocated) income and expenses separately.
Dave reported on discussions with the San Francisco region about our participation in the March 17th-19th Double National at Thunderhill. Our proposal is to participate in 10% of the event profit if we supply 10 volunteers for the weekend.
The next agenda item was a review of Russ Carpenter’s “Sign ‘em Up” program. After considerable discussion on the proposal it was agreed to give “newbies” the member rate for their first event.
The board members then reviewed the revised Time Trials schedule – the deletion of the April 30th Reno-Fernley event and the deletion of the October weekend at Lovelock. The September Reno-Fernley event will tentatively be the NORPAC divisional series finale.
John discussed the proposal to put unmodified Mini Cooper Works cars into BS for our region events. All directors agreed.
The group then reviewed Jim Gandy’s proposal to somehow compensate directors and volunteers for the work they do. After a discussion on his generous proposal it was agreed to pass on the recommendation.
The annual bus cleaning gala was scheduled for March 11th at 10:00 at the DeBorde’s compound in Minden.
Doug Driver reported that Matt Benson had transferred the checkbook and treasurer’s records to him. It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried by the directors to remove Matt and include Patty Evans, John Evans, Dave DeBorde and Doug Driver as signers on the checking account with one signature required.
There being no further business before the board, and with dessert exhausted, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted by Doug Driver, Secretary.
