OLD BUSINESS
Minutes of prior meeting
Patty Evans moved to approve the minutes from the May 3, 2005 meeting; Matt Benson seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report
Matt Benson dazzled the members with his treasurer’s report. Total cash as of May 31st was $20,605. Carol DeBorde moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Lee Mitchell seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
Winnemucca Challenge
The general consensus was that Winnemucca was an enjoyable event and all participants had a great time. There were 46 Reno competitors and 34 Snake River competitors. Reno, of course, took home the perpetual trophy. The members gave a rousing round of applause to John and Patty Evans for organizing such a splendid event.
Las Vegas Region North-South Challenge
Like Winnemucca, the Hawthorne event was a great road trip – and Reno came home with that trophy too. The Las Vegas region members went out of their way to make us welcome and create a party atmosphere for the entire event.
Solo2 Divisional
The John Evans signature course, the supplemental regulations, and the sanction request are approved. We need more sign-ups, particularly from the Reno region. Trophies will be awarded in all classes, and the fun will begin on Friday afternoon with a welcome party and early tech inspection. We need help with course setup on Friday afternoon and Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The members discussed the need to attract more national-level drivers from other regions to our divisional events. The NORPAC divisional series is not strong enough to draw these higher-level competitors. Dean Benz suggested that more recognition and publicity for the series might help, and John Riggs suggested that a perpetual trophy to be exchanged between the NORPAC regions might add a little rivalry to the series.
Reno-SFR Double National
Dave reported that the Double National lost money, so our region will not receive any cash from its participation. Weather was a big factor in the poor turnout of drivers. Next year Spec Miata will be a national class, so a big turnout is likely – regardless of weather.
Club Trials
The sanction request for the June 18-19 event at Lovelock is completed, but we need more entries. Pershing County will provide a standby ambulance, and we’ll pay something for their volunteers’ time. Greg Benson reviewed the new format for Club Trials along with a discussion of the safety requirements.
Auto Jumble
The members discussed the prospect of holding an auto jumble (swap meet) in conjunction with an event, but the idea died for lack of a volunteer.
Bus Drivers
We are still in need of volunteers to get the bus to and from our remote events. Drivers should be desirable to an insurance company – clean record, married etc. Event entry fees will be waived for bus drivers.
NEW BUSINESS
Reno-Fernley Time Trials
The track has been approved by the SCCA, and the sanction process for the July 23-24 event is underway. The track has been approved for Time Trials events but not for a road race event. Our event will be a combined Performance Driving Experience and Track Trials event pursuant to the new SCCA Time Trials rules. The supps are finalized and posted on the website. We may be able to negotiate reduced fees with Reno-Fernley Raceway if we volunteer to do some rock picking at the track.
Promotional Chair
Russ Carpenter has taken on the task of working to promote our club, and he discussed his great ideas with the membership. To successfully promote our club we need more VOLUNTEERS. Let Russ or any of the board members know if you’d like to lend a hand.
Walk-On Items
Dave came up with a walk-on item and suffered some minor abuse from Dean because “Dave prepared the agenda.” He reported that Nissan very generously gave our club an FX-45 to use as our club safety car. The vehicle is in fabulous condition, but it must be towed to our events as it cannot be operated on public roads. Pat Riley generously donated the graphics and received a golf clap from the members.
The next general membership meeting is scheduled for July 6, 2005 at 6:30 PM at Austin’s Restaurant in Reno.
With no further business before the members, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.
Respectfully submitted by Doug Driver, Secretary.
