OLD BUSINESS:
Minutes of April - Patty Evans moved that the minutes be approved and John Riggs seconded; motion carried unanimously.
Matt Benson presented the Treasurer’s Report and distributed copies of the March 31 Cash Transaction report. Greg Benson moved to accept and Luc Kunze seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
Solo 2 First Event Weekend: Matt Roy and Scott Perry event chairpersons reported the weekend went very well. At the beginning there were some complaints about the course but after driving it, most agreed it was great. They thanked all who came to help set up and help take down the course. The new Novice Program worked out great. Dave thanked Matt & Scott for the well organized and fun event.
Winnemucca Challenge (Slots vs. Spuds): John Evans reported he has a block of rooms held at The Red Lion Casino; a banquet planned at the Convention Center and catered by Ormachea’s Bask Restaurant; Tee shirts ordered; and the entry form is on our web site or myautoevents.com. A late entry fee will be assessed for entries received after May 1. Larry Capen made a motion to extend the cut off date until May 10; Patty Evans seconded and motion carried. John welcomed all Novice drivers to the event and will be glad to help them. Looking for a bus driver? Doug Driver has volunteered to drive the bus if Carol will drive his Porsche to Winnemucca. Bus needs to be there by Noon on Friday (5/13/05).
North/South Challenge, hosted by Las Vegas Region: The registration form is on line – myautoevents.com. Question was asked if there will be a street tire class. LVR does not have a street tire class but we will separate out Reno Region “T” class drivers and score them for Reno Region point’s championship. (That challenge is tasked to Dean & Scott). Course design is under review by the Solo Safety Committee via the So Pac Divisional Solo2 Safety Steward.
Solo2 Divisional: Dave and Doug have finalized the Supp Regulations; flyer and entry form. They will send sanction request and all pertinent forms to Katie Elder for approval. Classes: All open and Ladies national classes as defined by the 2005 Solo Rules including F-125 and Formula Jr 1-4 Karts. In addition, Regional only classes SU, SUL, Street Tire “T” and Novice “N” may compete for Regional Championship points but will not be scored for Division Championship points. Registration fee stays at $55.00 that includes the Welcome Party Friday and a Tee Shirt. Dave would like to get flyers distributed and the info on the Web site ASAP. John Evans has finished the course design and has submitted it to Katie for review/approval also. The course looks to have good flow and ample technical challenge. Scott Perry is designing the Tee Shirt and Matt Roy will order them. Doug is looking into trophies.
Reno/SFR Double National Results: Dave reported it’s not final yet but appears that the Double National lost money on the event and we will not be receiving money from the event this year.
Time Trials Events: The committee met before this meeting and the Supps are basically finished as of tonight. The Sanction is ready to go to National for approval. First event will be at Lovelock June 18 & 19 with a Performance Driving Experience and Time Trial at Reno Fernley to be July 23 & 24. The track inspection has been scheduled with SCCA, Rich and Jeremy Cable at Reno Fernley Raceway. E.T. gave us a brief status report on how close the new track is to be completed: Hopefully by mid July.
NEW BUSINESS:
“Auto Jumble” –John Lefcourte made a proposal to Dave about having an Auto Jumble/Swap Exchange – bring no longer needed car parts and trade for something useful. After some discussing at pour July event would be a good time to hold this. Dave will ask John if he will chair it. This is not an opportunity to bring stuff to leave at the airport for disposal. Anything not exchanged – must be taken back home.
Calling all bus drivers: Well almost all! Need mature, married “low risk” volunteers to transport the bus to our remote sights. Please contact Dave if interested.
Public Relations/Marketing/Social Chairpersons requested: The Board is exploring opening three leadership positions within the Club. If you have the necessary skill sets and would like to get involved, one of these might be for you: 1) public relations and event promotion; 2) organizing socials at events (something after an event, the ed of the year banquet, etc.); 3) arranging programs at selected general membership meetings (informative sessions or a speaker of interest, etc.). After discussion Russ Carpenter indicated he was interested in help with the PR program. Please contact Dave if you are interested in any of the programs – 775-267-4845
Walk on Items: Debbie thanked Scott & Dean for publishing results so quickly. Get items for the Newsletter to Jim Gandy by May 17.
Questions: When calling the El Capitan, Hawthorne they indicate all rooms are booked – Do we have any other places to recommend. Sand & Sage for $39.00/night.
Questions: What are the rates for the Red Lion Casino this year? John didn’t remember.
Craig Cummins indicated he is glad that the Divisional is a regional point’s event for Reno this year.
Several members asked about the Atwater event. Dave reported that he, Debbie Kerswill, Pat Housel, Jim & Luc Kunze, Ham Edwards, and Jeff Gloriosro represented Reno Region. The course was fast and flowed well. The concrete surface at Castle Airbase is grippy and in very good condition. This is undoubtedly one of the premier Solo 2 sites in the nation. The entire event was well organized, ran smoothly despite 340 entries. Overall it was a HOOT!
Meeting adjourned at 7:45PM
