OLD BUSINESS

Minutes of prior meeting

Patty Evans moved to approve the minutes from the March 2, 2005 meeting;  Larry Capen seconded;  the motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report

Matt Benson, our honorable treasurer, was buried in tax returns and unable to attend the meeting.  However, he furnished the cash transactions report for the month of March which showed a total cash balance, as of March 31, 2005, of $19,193.  Dave DeBorde commented that the Solo2 insurance is higher this year by $1 per car, bringing the total for sanction and insurance to $7.00 per driver.  Dean Benz moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Scott Perry seconded the motion.  The motion carried unanimously.

Solo2 Safety Steward Seminar

Dave reported on the safety steward training seminar held at the home of Dick and Annie Lewis on April 1st.  It was well attended, and Dick did a fabulous job with the training.

Solo2 School Summary

41 students attended the Saturday session, and 82 students attended one or both days.  Comments received from the first-timers were universally positive.  Russ Carpenter suggested that the directors be better identified so novices could more easily find someone to ask questions.  The list of first-timers was divided among the directors who will call each of the participants to encourage them to continue and discuss the novice program.  Dave read a letter from Jim Gandy thanking the volunteers for their help.

The members gave Jim a rousing thank-you in absentia.

Las Vegas Region North-South Challenge

The North-South challenge is available for registration on myautoevents.com.

Reno/SFR Double National

Dave reported on our region’s participation at the Double National at Thunderhill March 18th-20th.  Lucas, Larry, Lee, Carol, Deb, Kyp, Dave, Big Al and Mary Ann endured some bad weather to represent the Reno Region.  Our participation was noticeable, but more would have been better.  Hopefully we will see some income from our members’ hard work.

Winnemucca Challenge

We’re looking for a volunteer to drive the bus to the event.  In a moment of weakness, Tyson agreed to design the T-shirt.  Winnemucca is a Reno Region event, so our annual tech inspections will apply.

Solo2 Event Chair Sign-up

Dave again stressed the need to finalize the staffing for all Solo2 events well in advance so the event chairs do not suffer burn-out from doing all of the work.  The advance staffing should include safety steward, registration, tech inspection, timing and scoring, and, of course, refuse management.

Matt Roy and Scott Perry are chairing the April 23rd-24th event at Stead and have confirmed that it will be a dry course.  The event chairs for the remaining dates are:

May 14-15                   Winnemucca              John Evans and Tyson Kueper

June 25-26                  Divisional/Stead          Dave DeBorde and Doug Driver with Patty

Evans as Operating Steward

July 16-17                    Stead                           Jim Uchytil and Mike Mulhall

August 13-14               Stead                           Lucas Kunze

September 3               Lovelock                      Jim Uchytil and Doug Driver

October 1-2                 Stead                           Pat Housel

NEW BUSINESS

Reno-Fernley Time Trials

We have booked July 22nd-23rd for a Time Trials event at Reno-Fernley but have not yet paid a deposit.  This two day event will be classified as a Performance Driving Experience (PDE)/Track Trials.  Reno-Fernley and the SCCA national office are working together (separate from our activities) on track approval. The PDE is a street school and is not a competition event, rather it is an opportunity for drivers to experience race track driving.  The Track Trials is a solo competition event for track prepared cars.

Dave proposed the following resolution to allow the region to advance the funds for the event while holding the  Solo2 program harmless from any financial loss:

The club will advance the necessary funds to the Time Trials program to enable it to secure the site and host the event.  Should there be a financial loss on the event, the Time Trials program will agree not to host any further Reno-Fernley track events until it has repaid the club in full through the profits from its Lovelock Time Trials events.

Dean Benz moved to adopt the resolution and Scott Perry seconded.  The motion carried unanimously.

Solo2 PAX

Dean Benz reported on his research into the Street Tire and Street Unlimited PAX factors.  Currently our Street Tire factor is 2 seconds/minute, and the data from national events suggest that we are still a bit low.  Dean moved to keep the ST and SU PAX factors as they are for this year.  Scott Perry seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.

Membership Recruiting Opportunities

Dave reported that he had been approached about our interest in participating in Big Mamma’s Show N Shine in the Carson Valley.  Our participation in this and other similar events could be a possible membership recruitment opportunity.  After discussion on the subject our membership agreed that car shows are probably not the best use of our volunteers’ limited free time.

Walk-On Items

Dave suggested that members interested in the Time Trials program visit msquaredracing.com/tt/forum to participate in some of the Time Trials forums.

We need about 50 new cones thanks to the errant driving of our membership.  Pat Riley will give us a quote.

The next general membership meeting is scheduled for May 4, 2005 at 6:30 PM at Austin’s Restaurant in Reno.

With no further business before the members, the meeting was adjourned at the early hour of 7:50 PM.

Respectfully submitted by Doug Driver, Secretary.
