Regional Championship events #8 & #9 @Stead: Dave thanked John Evans for a great event and interesting course. All agreed it was a fun weekend.
Reno Solo2 Divisional: Dave again personally thanked all of the Chiefs for an excellent job as well as thanked everyone that attended and helped too. All areas were handled well – Dave liked most that he didn’t have to do anything! There were 112 attendees – someone from each of the regions except Alaska came. Matt gave a brief report that the event didn’t lose money. The Airport Manager was glad to see that everything was spotless. John Perry expressed how he enjoyed the Sat. Social at Little Waldorf – watching the video of the day’s races and the camaraderie. Dave would personally like to see this as a regular Regional event and for points next year (to give a few more people the experience of a more formal event). Some discussion followed. Those present indicated they would like to have another Divisional next year and about the same date.
July 24 Driver’s School/July 25 Unspecified Event: The person that was going to chair the event has opted out. After some discussion, John Perry made a motion we drop the event; Jim Uchytil 2nd; motion carried. This was not a points event for our Championship series.
Solo 1 Race Status Report: Greg Benson gave an update on the signups for the July 17 & 18 event. There are 8 people confirmed and several have said they plan to come – so should have about 22 participants. Need more people to help work the event – so if anyone is interested in coming out to see what it’s like & would be willing to help at the event – we welcome you. The course is 2 miles and expected speeds of 95 mph. Greg has talked to the hotel manager of Ramada Inn Sturgeon’s Casio phone 775-273-2971 & they have rooms available for $40/night.
Have fire extinguishers rented, Dean Benz is loaning club flags, looking into getting hay bails for flag stations, an ambulance service on standby and the course has been okayed. Any questions, please call Greg Benson. Passengers will be allowed if the car complies with all regulations. A Tech night is planned week before event to iron out bugs before event. Call Greg.
Update of Injured Guest: Larry Capen informed us that the SCCA member went home this week. He can’t put weight on his legs yet; He’s using a wheelchair & hospital bed. It will be another month before he is able to start walking. He is in good sprits & looks forward to coming back to a race in Reno. There is a raffle of 500 tickets for Kumo Tires of choice at $5.00 ea to help pay uncovered expenses. Check our web site for more details.
New Business
Pre-registration Request: Dave would like to remind participants to pre-register for an event through the web site. It does help the event chair and registrations.
Stead User Complaint Resolution: A formal complaint was issued to the Director of Airport Authority & the FAA. There were three issues. One of the items was a concern of using the facility for SCCA Motorsports event. Dave assured us that our event this weekend is not in jeopardy because of the complaint. Dave read the letter he had written & sent to The Airport Manager. Copy of letter attached to the minutes.
July 10 & 11 Points event #10 & #11: Event chairs are Mike Mulhall & Jim Uchytil. They plan to set up the course on Friday around 10:00am and would appreciate any help. Dave suggested that when they set up they start with the Grid, start & finish to be sure to have enough room for everything. The course map is approved by an event Safety Steward before the event.
Sept. 4 & 5 Solo@ Points event #14 & #15 – Determine Location: After a brief discussion, Patty Evans made a motion we have the event at Lovelock – it was unanimously 2nd by all present. Dave expressed that he would like to have us entertain the possibility of a Solo Trial event on the same weekend. The site would be already set up from the event in Aug & we could have it after the Solo2 or in the morning before the Solo2 event. There was a lot of discussion. It was suggested we do more research and bring back to the table at next meeting in August.
Newsletter – Editor/articles: If anyone has an article to submit do so ASAP. Dave D. will be putting the newsletter together this month. Please, if you have any interest in being the Editor – let Dave know. We are available to help someone that might like to try this new venture.
Walk On Items: Matt Benson brought up the fact that there was an article in two car magazines that indicate manufactures have declined warranty on new cars that they have discovered have been racing. It is possible manufactures are going to the Regions web sites to check participants.
John Perry moved we adjourn, everyone 2nd. Meeting adjourned at 8:25pm..
