Old Business

Solo 2 Advance Registration – My AutoEvents.com – Time to signup/Registration at additional events:  The season is upon us and Dave commented that everybody is probably ready except him!  Dave informed us that there looked like only 21 signed up for Winnemucca event today and Idaho is getting concerned.  There have been some that mailed in their registrations.  Please sign up ASAP if you plan to attend.  The Drivers School is our first Event, April 17 with the first points event on April 18.  Dave has sent out letter to the Stead Police, Fire Dept., and National Guard.  He has also notified Santi-Hut.  We have the sanction permits and insurance – John Riggs, III has them and will bring to first event to put in bus. The Airport has extended our contract for another year – Dave is looking into confirming the amendments made – Overnight parking and RV Parking.  The Lions Club will return for Coffee & donuts in am and lunch at 11:30 – 2:00.  They will be sure to have extra food for the Divisional in June.  Las Vegas is concerned that they haven’t received a flyer announcing the event yet and just found some information on the Web.  Dean said he is working on a flyer and has the hotel & the banquet booked & looking into the awards Sun.  Will be ordering the Trophies and T’s soon.  Dean is finalizing everything this next week.  There had been some concern about Hawthorne having some work done on the site.  We have been assured it will not interfere with the event.

Solo I & HPCCC status report:  Greg reported he &Dave have a course drawn up and should be 2 miles with a run lap of 2 ˝ minutes.  Will be happy to get 30-40 drivers but plan to limit it to 50 for this first event – too see how it goes.  Dave reported they are having problems getting in touch with someone to approve the site.  This needs to be done through National.  Don’t expect it to be a problem.

Solo 2 Safety Stewards Seminar:  The Safety Seminar at Dick & Annie Lewis’ was very well done; good information and lots of discussion.  Had two out of area participants that attended because their region wasn’t offering a Safety Steward Seminar.  We had four new members from Reno that signed up.  Thank you again Dick for a great informative presentation.

Rally Cross Program:  Scott Perry & Matt Roy reported they are on hold for the time being.  Will pick up toward end of summer.

Subaru WRX One Year Lease – Propose to reject prize:  Dave report that he has been exhaustively researching for insurance per the agreement.  Subaru has required there be a million dollar policy and they be named on the policy as well.  He has talked to San Francisco Region but their insurance company can’t write a policy in NV so gave him names to check with.  Did finally get a quote for $2,800.00 for one-year policy.   Dave drafted a letter to SCCA’s Vice President of Marketing, Garret Mudd and copy to Steve Johnson, President informing them we would be unable to accept the prize.  (copy of letter in sec’y file).  After discussion it was the general consensus to send the letter and not accept the Subaru WRX.

Reno SCCA Promotional Flyer/Schedule Pocket Cards:  Dave thanked Christa for the great flyer she made.  Christa has put 50 at Summit and would like to know where we would like to have others displayed.  Dave thanked Patty Evans for the schedule pocket cards and they were handed out to all present.  John Riggs, III informed us his email address is wrong on the card.

Mike Mulhall asked about the Reno Banner we had left at Summit – it’s not hanging up.  Dave said he has talked to several people there including the manager and they are unable to locate it.

Corvette Club Canceled:  Dave reported that he received an email from the Western States Corvette Council and they have canceled their event at Stead on Sun. July25.  Jim Gandy brought up the fact there were so many events scheduled during July & Aug that we might want to cancel the 2nd Drivers School.  It was suggested that we might want to have a team challenge or some other special type of event on the July dates that would be non-points.  To be discussed at a latter meeting.

Double National at Thunderhill:   We co-hosted a Double National with San Francisco Region at Thunderhill and the driver turnout was successful – 167 on Sat & 165 on Sun.  San Francisco Board said their break-even point was about 125 entrants.  It was a great event and celebrated the Mini Cooper’s 40 years with 4 of the 5 National Winners participating. There was a lunchtime parade lap of 18 Mini’s (participants & Mini Club members).  Unfortunately, only a small enthusiastic group of Reno members worked.  Dave then expounded on his Driver School experience for getting his Novice permit.  He felt San Francisco Regions Driver School was a top notch school for what he received & he learned.  Their people were excellent both in teaching and helping the students in any way possible – including washing a car when it took an excursion in the mud at turn 3!!!

New Business

Nissan Safety Car Request:  The club has sent in a request for a ‘save the life of an errant Nissan to be destroyed’.  The car would not have any value so wouldn’t have tax impact.  A member indicated it is still under advisement & hopes to have an answer soon.

Solo 2 Drivers School:  Dave reported that Jim Gandy has the ground school very well developed.  The started times will be same as normal events starting at 9:00am & doing all day. It is loose because not sure how many will be attending.  Need to get some advertising out there – Christa’s flyer.  Jim reported there will be some time for instructors to use the 4 exercise course setup in the morning while students are in ground school (apx. ˝ hr) and again time in the afternoon.  Jim took a show of hands to see how many plan to come and instruct.  Dave asked to have anyone interested in instructing to also sign up on My-AutoEvents.com.  It was asked about getting the Annual Tech done on Sat and Jim indicated that we should be able to do that too.  Dave informed us we don’t have the Annual Tech stickers as Nat’; doesn’t make one for Solo 2 yet.  Matt Roy has a source to have them made and Dave will get design/info for sticker and he’ll order 100 to be here by April 17.  Pat Hausel has agreed to be Chief of Tech and Lee Mitchell and Larry Capen will be assistants.

Solo 2 Divisional Committee – Course, Promotion, Hospitality, Lodging, etc.:  Dave asked if anyone could help plan a flyer/ad to get into the other Region newsletters for their next press.  Helen Perry has Reno’s Arch log & Davewill pick it up next week.

John Evans is in process of planning the course.  The plan for the Divisional is similar to last year with the course available to walk on Fri. afternoon and a “Sloppy Joe” Welcome Party in the evening.  Looking into have a no-host get together at a local restaurant, but think the Flowing Tide will be too small for us this year as we are expecting more participants this year.   Jim Riggs, III & Carol Sheets will look into Sparkies/The Wall & Carol is checking with Bulley’s.

Walk on Items:

Matt Benson notified us about the V700 Tire & that they are being replaced because of defects.

Dave has copy of a Course Design Seminar that Roger Johnson presented and will send it to Dean to link on our site for anyone interested.

Greg Benson indicated after attending a few of the Road Racing events he sees a need for Dave to get some SCCA business cards.  John Perry made a motion for the club to get Dave Deborde business cards.  Greg seconded.  Motion carried.  Dave will ask Patty Evans to see if she can get the person that made the Pocket cards to do them.

Jim Gandy wants any articles for the newsletter by Thursday – he plans to get this out by Friday.

Jim Gandy moved we adjourn, Helen Perry 2nd.  Adjourned at 7:55pm.

Respectfully submitted by:  Carol Deborde, Secretary
