Old Business

National Convention Summary:  Dave very enthusiastically reported that Reno Region was the recipient of $750.00 for the Subaru program and the use of a WRX Subaru for one year for the most retained memberships.  He thanked Debbie Kerswill, Scott Perry, Matt Roy and the Subaru Group for their support and help in making this possible.  Dave also reported that the Reno Region was the winner of the Best  Solo2 Divisional for 2003 season & we were presented with a large engraved glass bowl which Carol had filled with cookies she made to share with all.  Dave reported that the Convention was well attended and very informative seminars.  The Best Program were the Safety Seminars.  Understand SCCA is working to get it on a CD for purchase. Dave would like to see more attendance from Reno next year if at all possible so more of the seminars could be attended.

There was much discussion about the WRX Subaru we won: insurance needed, what we could and couldn’t do with the car.  No one under 25 yrs old may drive the car per Subaru; can’t race the car; may use for Pace Car and demo rides.  Since Debbie did so much of the organizing of the program and paper work – let her have it for the year.

Jim Gandy suggested that we let the Subaru Club (SECCS) receive the $750.00 since it was basically through their efforts we got the money as long as it benefited the SCCA and wasn’t need for insurance for the car.  Jim Gandy made a motion: that we give the $750 to the Subaru Enthusiast Car Club of the Sierra to use as long as it also benefited the SCCA, unless the club will need it to pay for the insurance on the car we are to receive for one year.  Patty 2nd motion.   Motioned carried

Dave will call Pete Lyon and see if can get some answers for insurance questions.

Dave & Carol had shirts made with the Reno Logo on them and they wore during the convention.  If the club is interested in having some made, the art work has been done and we could take rders.

Solo2 Advance Registration: Debbie Kerswill will set up on My Auto Events.com early events registrations.  Debbie would like info from the event chairs; i.e. hours, costs, or anything important to include on the web.  She will take registrations 4 – 6 weeks in advance.

The Winnemucca event is being handled this way.  They have 4 hotels being held for reservations.  Your registrations can be made @ MyAutoEvents.com

2004 Solo 1, HPCCC Status Report: Dave reported for Greg Benson that we are looking at getting a Safety Steward and Dick Lewis is looking into getting an upgraded license for this position.  Dave will be talking to Dick Templeton, Divisional Steward to help obtain Solo I sanction at Lovelock.

Solo2 Safety Stewards School:  A meeting April 2 at Dick & Annie Lewis’ home is scheduled.  There will be discussions on Controlling course speeds – cars are supposed to be kept in low 60’s by course design.  Event Safety Steward needs to take active roll in Okaying course design.  Dave D. attended a Course Design Seminar at National and received information that will be helpful – managing turns and radus’, placing/setting cones.

Solo2 Event Preparations – sanction, Insurance, Special Events Permits, Letters Police, national Guard, etc:  Greg Benson sent into National for the sanction requests – Dave asked if John Riggs, III has heard anything to date and if he had sent any of the letters out yet for special requests?  John said he will email Dave when he gets the sanction forms back.  Dave said he will do the letters and discuss with John.

Event Bus:  Dave will try to pick it up next week to do the yearly maintenance and check the brakes.  John Evens informed Dave to be careful  washing it – not to get water inside.  Didn’t schedule a cleanup date – but will check inventory when he has the bus: wrist bands, forms, etc.

The insurance and license are on the bus & in order for the season.

Rallycross Programs Status:  Matt Roy has talked with Rick Cable at Fernley.  Rich is converting approximately 2 acres and can expand the track.   Will be asking for volunteers to help. Fees/charges have not been determined yet.  Thinking an event toward the end of the season is want they are working for – Oct/Nov.  Some members will be attending an event in Oregon with Matt Tabor Rallycross program.

New Business

Reno Flyer:  Dave asked for a volunteer to generate a flyer for our 2004 events.  Christa Steele will do it.  Suggested we include a map to Reno-Stead Airport.

Nissan Safety Car Request: One of our members has requested a car, that has been tested and ready for the crusher, to be used by Reno Region as a Pace car at some events.  It’s in a pending stage, not sure what we will get.

Solo2 Drivers School April 17-18:  Dave D. & Jim Gandy are event chairs.  Dave wondered if the instructors should sign up in advance - not at this time.

 Workers Seminar/Worker Licensing/SFR Drivers School/Reno-SFR Double National:

There were 16 members that turned our for the San Francisco Fire & Safety Workers Seminar

at Infineon on February 21.  Carol has the licensing request and the card to keep track of work dates.  They will be mailed to those that attended.

The SFR Driver School is March 6-7.  This would be a great weekend to come learn the specialty you are interested in participating in.  The Double National is March 20-21 and we need all those that have indicated they are interested to be there.  If you plan to do Flag/Communication please let Dave know – we need to notify the SFR chiefs so they will have staff to teach.  (This is to get us ready for our own events in the future.)

Solo2 Divisional 6/ 26-27:  Looking for people who will help.  Registration – Debbie Kerswill; Course Design – John Evans; Promotion – open (would like to sent information to other regions ASAP); Hospitality – Carol; Lodging – open; Sups for event; overnight camping will be available for small fee; bleachers for event; may be able to use control tower to take pictures from;  Would like to get a committee together ASAP.

Self contained RV parking will be available at our regular events for a small fee this year.  Dave will check with Skip about bringing dogs this year.

Walk on Items

The North-South Challenge, Hawthorn – have we booked the hotel & banquet?  Dean Benz is event chair & will being handling this.  Dave mentioned there may be an issue with use of the Airport because the work scheduled last year wasn’t done & will be doing it this year.  Dave is waiting to hear from the Road Commission about the use for the event May 29-30.

John Riggs, Jr. indicated that the 12 radios & head sets (UHF, 2 watt, 6 mile range) will be more expensive than discussed by about $300.  John made a motion that we authorize another $300 to cover the additional expense.  Patty 2nd.  Motion carried.  Total expense will be approximately $3,100.00.

Dave asked John Riggs, Jr. if he had got the old time equipment back.  We did and they did fine.

Patty Evans reminded us that the Fire Extinguishers need to be charged.  Sid Alignment & Brakes has done them in the past.

Matt Benson asked if he is authorized to cash in a CD if is unable to meet expenses.  He has that authority to do so if there is a need.

Jim Gandy would like articles and information for the newsletter no later than Wed, 3/10/04.

Mike Mulhall moved we adjourn, Matt Benson 2nd.  Adjourned 8:25pm

Respectfully submitted by: Carol Deborde, Secretary
