Events Review #11 & #12: Jim Gandy & Mike Kapic, event chairs had a ‘Wet & Wild’ event. Winners were present with squirt guns by the ‘Ta Da’ Gal (Marion Gandy). It sure helped cool one off from the 105 degree weather we were having that week end. Mike’s comment “it is over.” Jim report it was an all time high for water usage – 13 cases on Sat and 12 cases on Sun. Had 88 attendees. Jim thanked everyone that helped with the set up and those that helped on Sun to pick up the course. Dave thanked them for a great and innovative event.
Solo II Divisional July 5 & 6: The attendance was light – 75 drivers. The feedback: everyone had a good time; enjoyed the course; lots of food & social time; event ran very smoothly; some of the Divisional officials were pretty much in awe that our small division pulled it off without a snag. Katie Elder, Solo II Divisional Chief said she had nothing to improve upon. We made a little money and even had fun runs on Sat. and had $120.00 to buy beer at the Flowing Tide Pub where everyone was invited to join afterward.
Dave proposed and the Club agreed to do another Divisional next year and would like to possible schedule a date in June for 2004. San Francisco Region has one in May; Washington has one end of July and if Idaho gets a site they would have one in Aug.
John Evans would like to see it as a regional points event.
After some discussion a motion by Dick Lewis was made to hold another Divisional in June 2004;Patty Evans seconded; motion carried unanimously.
It was suggested that next year our regional events be 20 including the Divisional or 18 plus the Divisional as a no points. To be tabled for a later date. Course to have gates & walls and not so many cones.
Dave Deborde reported that a few members went to the National Tour/Divisional in Bremerton, WA. Although we didn’t bring any trophies back those that went had a great time, met some nice people and experienced a new part of the SCCA.
New Microphone status: John Riggs, Jr. purchased a new cordless mic, and will have it and will have at the next event.
RallyCross – status: Matt Decker reported he is still looking for a location. He has 3 or 4 sites he’s working on, including Fernley.
Event #13 & #14: Christa & Jeff Steele. They passed around a copy of the proposed course. Jeff asked for help on Friday to set up around noon. John Riggs, Jr. will bring the bus out on Fri.
Dave D. reported that the Lions Club has been approved to cater at our events for lunch and plan to have donuts & coffee in the morning of Sat & Sun
Fernley – SCCA Use for Solo II or High Performance Street School or Test & Tune: Dave D would like to get a feel from the membership on whether or not to explore the possibility of using Fernley for a Solo I for a high performance driving school. If Reno is not interested the San Francisco Region may wish to get involved. After some discussion about what Solo I is and how to get a Novice License and the equipment that would be needed, it was agreed to have Dave look into using the facility. A motion was made by Mike Kapic to seriously look into what it will take to use Fernley for SCCA events; seconded by John Riggs, III.
Show & Shine, Subaru WRX Club Proposal: Scott Perry from SECCS would like to propose that SCCA Autocross have a BarBQ and Show & Shine after one of the remaining events. Many items were discussed on what to do and how it would be run was discussed. It was decided that we could make it fun for all and agreed to have it. Scott will call Dave D to get names to contact. Dave thanked Scott for coming and we look forward a fun join event.
2004 NORPAC Convention – summary: Dave D. informed the members present that the $75.00 early bird registration will be the same as the last few years and after Dec. 8 it will be $100. He let them know who has agreed to participate – Steve Johnson, CEO & President SCCA; Barbara Lundquist, SCCA U; Brian Nemy, Solo II Safety; Solo II Divisional Series ’03 Awards & ’04 Planning; Worker Incentive Programs; Panel Discussion Licensing – all specialties & venues; Hope to get Jeff Niess, Incident Debriefing. Dave asked if anyone has any ideas they would like to see at the convention, please let him know.
Cathy Gilbert, who is helping with the Sponsorship, reported that she has contacted Big O Tires and a Corvette Club for help. Dave thanked Cathy for her help. We will be contacting many businesses to ask for ads for the program, giveaways and money to sponsor the event. If interested or have someone we should contact let Dave D know.
