Eric Gangloff called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
New meeting attendees were welcomed and member introductions conducted.
Previous minutes were reviewed, a motion to approve was made and seconded, and approved with the following correction. Fourth paragraph, Edy Eddins did not volunteer to be event chair for a school if the Divisional doesn’t’ happen.
Treasurers Report:
Patty Evans gave the treasures report. We began the month of January with a balance of $7,190.55 and ended the month with a balance of $5,960.28. There are two CD’s totaling approximately $8,200.
Old Business:
Greg Benson communicated changes to the run groups as follows:
Street tire will be its own class
Prepared, Mods and Karts
Stock Classes – STS, STX
Street prepared, SM, SM2, SU
The schedule shows regular shift of run groups through the Divisional in July. This will shift down one event, as the Divisional will have its own specific run groups.
Supps were reviewed and approved contingent on a wording change to rule 4.4A, which will allow for an event chair to limit the number of Afternoon Option No Points (AONP) entrants at their discretion. This will ensure we do not have a glut of afternoon drivers and late ending events. The Supplemental Regulations for 2003 will be posted on the web site.
No Rally will be held in April. There is a 6-month lead-time for BLM land. There may be a Rally in November. No paving has been done at the Reno/Fernley Raceway. There will be a meeting at Austin’s on February 19 at 6:30 p.m. for people interested in road racing. Greg Benson is coordinating the meeting so we can learn what we need to do to be prepared for when we have a road course near by.
Several members had a chance to play with the demo version of the new software. It is very flexible and robust. Programming for the 1st event with all the data and parameter loading will be complex. The cost is $1,400 and the purchase was previously approved. Lynn Hettrick will be approached to see if he would still like to make a donation. Eric Gangloff previously donated $200 toward the purchase. Paper backup in the form of cards or a print out of participants will be kept until we are completely comfortable with the new software. Eric, Dean, Greg and John Riggs will get the software and be ready to try it out at the test and tune on April 5. Eric will be the point person for the season for the continuation of paper scoring and he will ensure we have someone to be the automated timing system owner when we transition from needing a paper backup.
Eric asked for volunteers for event chair.

Edy has coordinated March 22 at Summit Racing. We will have our EZ-up, tables and SCCA promotion material. Greg and Matt Benson, Patty and John Evans, Pat Housel, Andrew Silva, and Randy Jones volunteered to display their cars and help with the booth. Mike Mulhall volunteered to help as well. Edy will provide details as the date approaches.
Edy did a really great job designing a new wallet card for this seasons event calendar. He got quotes from Sir Speedy and Kinko’s. The cost ranged from $307 – 420 for quantities of 1000. The more ordered the cheaper they get. The cost is significantly higher than years past, but the product is much nicer. There was much discussion on how to lower the cost. Suggestions of just black and white and a lighter card stock were given. Edy will check into this and report again at the next meeting. The run group revisions, discussed earlier, need to be incorporated into the card before they can be printed.
Mike Mulhall has a source for creation of our logo. Samples were passed around. He currently has JPG, TIF and bitmaps and asked what size decals the club wanted. Quantities of 100 and sizes are as follows =6 x13 = $3.31, 4 x 9 = $1.75, 6 ¾ x 3 = $.82. No decision on quantities or sizes was made. There is still some clean up and refinement work to be done. Most importantly is ensuring there is no copyright infringement for the official SCCA logo. Eric will be at the National Convention and will get the answer on the copyright question.
Summit Racing would like to display a SCCA banner. Once the logo’s are complete we will investigate getting a banner made.
Hats embroidered with the Reno SCCA logo are on order. They will be sold for $10 each.
American Autocross Series would like to hold their annual Larry Park Memorial Autocross in conjunction with or divisional in July. There was much discussion and a motion was made and passed that as long as AAS agree to abide by all SCCA rules we could combine the events. Randy Jones, John Perry and Jim Uchytil volunteered to work with AAS to chair the event. It was mentioned that Dave DeBorde might have already volunteered to be event chair for the Divisional, but since he was not present could not be confirmed. AAS would handle their own awards and scoring. Eric will communicate the decision to the AAS representative.
Ed Diederich from Northern Nevada Kart Club spoke about the Kart Track and the need to recruit course workers. They have nine events and are looking to recruit 10-12 interested people. Corner workers will receive instruction on flagging and communication, pit passes, $30 and a hamburger lunch. Anyone interested can contact Eric Gangloff and he can put you in touch with Ed.
Annual tech inspections will be available on April 5th at the test and tune.
March 23rd was chosen as the day to go through the bus and inventory supplies and clean it up to get ready for the race season. More details will be provided regarding time and place. Volunteers will be needed to help out.
We do not have an equipment chief for this season. John Perry volunteered to get the fire extinguishers charged. If anyone is interested in helping out with the equipment, contact a board member.
John Evans asked if we were going to have posters made that have our schedule and information about the club. Eric volunteered to contact Chris Causey to see if he would be able to get the posters made, similar to the last two years. There are some wording changes needed on the poster and we need to ensure that the schedule is double-checked for accuracy before printing. There were several errors on the posters from last year.
Eric will find out what we need to do in order to get track events going locally while he is at the National Convention.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Patty Evans, Treasurer filling in for Carol DeBorde
